The industrial revolution was the transitioning into manufacturing. The start of the industrial revolution was around 1760 and lasted until about 1840 (Positive And Negative Effects Of Industrialization – Geography Papers). During this 80-year period, there were many changes to the way that we made and interacted with products. The industrial revolution greatly impacted society in the 18th and 19th century and still affects us to this day in both positive and negative ways.
During the industrial revolution, 80% of the population was part of the working class. Additionally, during this time, the population was increasing at a very fast rate and even with an increasing population the employment rate was very high. In the early years of the industrial revolution, the working conditions were very rough. Most of the workers during this time would have to work 10-14 hours days and work 6-7 days a week (Effects of the Industrial Revolution). The industrial revolution helped to create a more lavish lifestyle. With the introduction of so many factories, there were many jobs available making it easier for families to have an income of some kind. Having money like this was something that people greatly enjoyed and something not many had before. With so many people working in the factory it really made the middle class grow. “The level of income that Europe has today could not have been reached without the Industrial Revolution” (Did Living Standards Improve During The Industrial Revolution).
