Imagine being in hospital room with a patient in critical condition, only minutes to live and you hear the flat line. Madelynn Varnado is faced with this possibility each day. Today we got personal insight on the life of a doctor in training. Madelynn Varnado is a former French Settlement High School graduate, she took time out of her very busy schedule to come to our 7th hour English 1 class for a interview by out students.
Madelynn had always wanted be a doctor since she was little. She has always loved the idea of helping people and making them feel better. As Madelynn says ,"As I got older and learned more about the career I fell even more in love with the whole idea of it." In high school Madelynn was never been a bad kid. Madelynn says that her teacher did not really influence her decision to become a doctor. Although Madelynn says," my teachers

We asked Madelynn, what she wants to do with her future after college? Madelynn said," Besides being a doctor, I want to have a family and get married. Maybe have kids eventually." Madelynn decided that if something was to happen and medical school did not work out for her she would attend P.A. (Physician Assistant) school to continue her medical career. Our class asked Madelynn if she thinks she will ever regret her decision, and her answer is pretty solid," No, I don’t think I will ever regret it. I love everything about medicine. I don’t think I would like to do anything else." Madelynn is very fond of the career path she has chosen, which is the most admirable thing about her.
Coming of age is a young person's transition from being a child to being an adult. In this interview we learned about Madelynn's journey through the process of coming of age. Darcy’s Coming of Age Experience Darcy White a wife and a mother is a nurse assistant at the Franklin Memorial Hospital and has worked there for over 15 years right out of college. As I was interviewing my mother she seemed very busy worrying about my brother’s doing homework, folding laundry and trying to pick from supper before that. Darcy seemed to me to be a hard working mother with a lot of responsibility, when I interviewed her and we were talking about college it seemed as though is was only a brief and small part of her life.

Coming of age is a young person's transition from childhood to adulthood. When a person is coming of age, they mature. Coming of age is shown by the two main characters in Marigolds by Eugenia Collier and Dead End by Rudolfo Anaya. In Marigolds, Lizabeth heard her parents having a conversation about how they are poor and the gender roles are being reversed when it comes to bringing in money for the family. Her father cries because he is embarrassed and this situation made Lizbeth mature.

Taneisha Grant’s narrative “When the Simulated Patient is for Real” discusses the real-life application of the information one learns in school by describing a situation between Doctor Grant and her patient, a worrisome man named Mr. G. Grant highlights the need to understand the patients themselves prior to treatment through her encounter with this patient. This encounter ultimately reminded her that her education will always continue to effect and to increase throughout her work. Grant takes a very patient-oriented view, making clear her medical aim to be helping her patients as best as possible. She mentions a need for objectivity, because it does not matter what “race, gender, or socioeconomic” status the patient has (Grant 182).

This person starts to realize their role in society, and they now have responsibilities and roles to take care of. Two components of coming of age include one’s perception of parents, and experiencing loss.
There comes a time is everyone’s life when they reach the point where they are no longer considered children, but adults. This transition from a child into a young adult is often referred to as the "coming of age;” which is different in everyone, since experiences different circumstances during this stage. According to Eric Erikson, there are eight different social stages a person must go through as they mature. Each stage has a positive and negative outcome. One of these includes stage 5 where it is reached when an adolescent is going through puberty where their body is changing and they are just trying to come to figuring out who exactly they are.
Coming of age means growing up and maturing. People grow and mature differently based on the experiences we have. “Growing Up: Key Moments,” “Marigolds,” and “Through the Tunnel” are three texts that support this idea. Although everyone has growing-up moments, they’re different for everyone. Everyone has different experiences and that’s what makes them grow up differently.

What is the definition of "coming of age". According to the Oxford dictionary, "coming of age refers to the process of growing up or entering into adulthood". Now the other hand, Why does it happen? and finally, how does it affect ones health or mindset? These questions will all be answered from a specific perspective of a character and the main protagonist, in the book, "House On Mango Street".
When I was thirteen years old, I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. Personally, I felt that that was my passion: to help people. Last year, while I was looking at the course catalog, I saw the words Ethics: Law, Business, and Medicine. Once I saw “medicine,” I put the class as my number one choice. Once I found out we were going to read “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” I was interested but didn’t know how it could help me in the future.
In life we sometimes get sucked into doing things that are not what we originally want for ourselves. We do this things to please our parents, or in hopes of reaching a more stable living condition. However as a result, we most times lose sight of what makes us as individuals happy. In the novel Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, the character Marilyn changes the way she pursues her life as a result of social norms but ultimately regrets the changes she made. Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life however for Marilyn, her dream of becoming a doctor was not supported.
As an aspiring physician in Emergency Medicine, it is hard to describe typical physician workday activities. Every day is unique and filled with many opportunities to learn and develop clinical, interpersonal communication, leadership and critical thinking skills. Despite this, there are certain routine activities which I had the opportunity to observe through my shadowing experience in the Emergency and Operating rooms at California Hospital Medical Center, Los Angeles. One day, a two year old patient came into the ER after falling and cutting her head. The patient’s mother told the physician that her daughter is nervous and scared.
Furthermore, she learned to manage her home, her family, and her studies to maintain her grade point average at a 4.0. Moreover, she strives to be the best there is to help adolescent who are struggling academically because of family issues. Also to the children who experienced child abuse, feels neglected, and have no safe harbor, but the streets, to these youngsters, she would give her full undivided attention to help each individual acknowledge it is never too late to turn around and change one’s life.
Recently she realized that she doesn’t like medicine and she is having a difficult time seeing herself as a doctor. She is conflicted because she thinks that her only professional option is to become a doctor and follow in the family’s footsteps. She thinks that if she doesn’t become a doctor she will fail in life.
