“Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It's coming up with ideas, testing principles and perfecting the engineering, as well as final assembly.” Some people feel that manufacturing as a whole, is more than just putting parts together. Critics of bolstering the manufacturing industry feel that the time where poorly educated can achieve a middle class status by working in factories, has passed. Agreements like the deal Trump made with Carrier in late 2016, some claim that it could “help reinvigorate the nation’s manufacturing industry”. The best solution to this largely growing problem is still under debate. Is the manufacturing industry still playing a crucial role in the US Economy?

Tax breaks, higher tariffs, and support may be the solution for bringing back the jobs. It is crucial that the goods be produced here, not abroad. “The manufacturing sector helped turn the United States into an economic powerhouse in the 20th century, and workers in the industry” were able to find and maintain jobs that usually wouldn’t require a higher education, therefore helping the economy. Sending the jobs overseas would be reducing jobs, money and benefits for Americans. Innovation-based industries that are both high-value and pay high wages are key to economic growth of the US.
