On that morning, there had been a shootout outside of a supermarket. Jared Lee Loughner, a Tucson resident, changed the lives of many people on that day. He killed 6 people, including a 9-year-old girl, and injured 13. While the judge believes that Loughner is competent, I agree too. I understand that he is a paranoid schizophrenic but this was indeed premeditated murder, so it’s hard for to go against the decision. A delusional …show more content…
Being a paranoid schizophrenic, he lost his sense, his touch with reality. He caused a scene by ranting about his actions. He strongly believed that he killed congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. In fact, he believed she died in front of him. In the courtroom, Loughner said “Thank you for the free kill. She died in front of me. Your cheesiness.” His rant got him removed from the courtroom. He also believed that all those people were evil, so he assumed that shooting them was a favor he was doing for the people of Tucson. Clearly, he isn’t mentally present so it is understandable why he was found incompetent. Pietz also studied his personal belongings such as his journal and computer entries. She deeply analyzed and noticed that he has been showing symptoms of depression since 2006. Pietz also believed that the symptoms of schizophrenia might have developed his junior year of high school. Afterwards, Burns changed his mind and believed Loughner was incompetent. Loughner’s rant in the courtroom was the cause of the judge’s sudden
After the trial where Adnan was convicted of 1st degree murder Gutierrez died of cancer. I believe that Gutierrez might have actually been suffering from cancer during the time she was Adnan’s lawyer but just didn’t realize it yet. So that might have actually impacted the fact that she was a sucky lawyer. Not the fact that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove if Adnan was guilty or

On June 17, 2015, 21-year-old Dylann Roof shot and killed 9 people in Charleston, South Carolina. While this act alone is shocking enough, it wasn’t the worst of it. Roof targeted members of an African American church group. He walked into the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he was welcomed by the members. Roof asked to speak with the pastor and spent about an hour with the church members who were having a bible study.

All I remember on March 25th, 2011 is that my family received a phone call that sent my sister and I into a state of turmoil and denial. We were informed that both our aunt and uncle were murdered the day before by their neighbor. In the mid 1990s, this neighbor was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This neighbor lived alone in a home where he possessed 10 firearms. After hearing this news I had mixed feelings of frustration and betrayal.
The Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting was one that shocked the nation and opened the eyes of Americans everywhere. This horrible event opened up our eyes to the fact that someone could easily come into a school and raise havoc with ease. This man, Adam Lanza, had no affiliation with Sandy Hook or any one inside it but still decided to take the lives of 20 children and 6 adults before taking his own. In the statements made by Joe Scarborough from his show “Morning Joe”, he says “Every American must know from this day forward that nothing can be the same again.” This is a very powerful statement because it brings up an important point.
The Brock Turner case is a very controversial case that spark debate on the subject of white male privilege and the abuse of power. People speculate that the only reason Turner received such a minimal sentence is because his parents are affluent and influential, due to their success and status as a white professional. He was found guilty and the judge gave him a very lenient sentence. Many people saw this as unfair to the girl that was raped and to everyone else impacted by this man 's crime. The judge 's name is Aaron Persky.
October 2nd, 2002 was the start of a long and horrific three weeks in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. People were terrified to be in the area and everyone was on edge. What appeared to be random killings, turned out to be a well-organized series of senseless shootings that took the lives of ten innocent people. After days of people being scared to death and much confusion, investigators discovered that there were two suspects in the shootings; John Allen Muhammad and his teenage partner Lee Boyd Malvo and they were in a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice sedan designed to terrorize people. This break in the case came when one of the suspects called the tip hotline and told them to look into a murder in Alabama, which lead to the case being
The criminal justice system is meant to protect the innocent, and punish those who are guilty of a crime. However, no system is perfect and as a result, sometimes the innocent become victims of the system that is meant to protect them. How exactly do these innocent people become victims of the system? Sometimes the person gets framed, and the crime scene is staged to point a finger at them. Sometimes, there is no strong evidence against them, yet the use of circumstantial evidence is used by the crown.
The murder of child beauty pageant winner JonBenet Ramsey in Boulder, Colorado has not yet been solved despite years of investigation on local, state, and even national levels. The six year old childs murder has never been forgotten. Her murder has caused debate over child abuse, the sexualization of young children, the cons of beauty pageants, and the frustration over unsolved murders of young people in the U.S. The murder has been the subject of many news programs, documentaries, and books. Suspects have been named and hounded in all of these.
One point of view at this topic is that the minimum age of 10 for criminal responsibility should remain stable. To begin with, the biggest argument that supports this opinion has to do with the fact that many crimes, more or less serious, are committed by young children even at the age of 10 years old. This fact can be noticed at the Bulger case. More specifically, James Patrick Bulger was a two year-old boy from Kirkby, Mereyside, England who was abducted, tortured and murdered by two ten-year-old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables. He was led away from the shopping center where he was with his mother and his body was found in Liverpoool, two days after his murder.
