Jay Heinrichs New York times Bestselling Author, husband of Dorothy and father of two, wrote four books and one of them based on the art of persuasion. Thank You For Arguing What Aristotle, Lincoln, and Homer Simpson can Teach us about The Art Of Persuasion, has been translated in twelve different languages and used in 3,000 college courses, gives us information on how to win an argument or get people on your side of one. Heinrichs uses different strategies to give us what he has learned so far on rhetoric. In the book he writes numerous chapters discussing the three major parts needed for this art. Ethos, pathos, and logos, Each analyzed in individual sections. The book should have a continued use in this class because it gives us great examples on vocabulary and how to write.
In Thank you for arguing Heinrichs tells us information that we need to know when arguing. He breaks each point down for us to understand. This is done by implying humorous stories that connect to the topic he is speaking of. Most of these stories are when he is with his family or just examples that he gives. The book gives us a variety of words to look at, there were moments where a word I didn't understand would pop up and I would have to stop my reading and look up the definition. These moments were unexpected and would make me kind of jump inside. The book gave me a boring feeling only because I felt he repeats some things he says. On the other hand every time I read the book it would give me new facts over arguing and what I should do in the little boxes he left in the margins. These helpful facts I would use mostly on my quite obnoxious younger brothers. The book shows us another way to write. Being serious, informative, and humorous all together. It shows us a creative way to title our paragraphs and what he writes on the margins helps us with how to use the information he gave
