Jerry Ehman was working with Ohio State University’s Bog Ear radio telescope on a SETI project, as he would, everyday, on August 15, 1977. Suddenly, he picked a signal 30 times as strong as the background noise of deep space. It was tracked for 72 seconds and had a frequency similar to that of the spectral line for hydrogen. The radio telescope printed out the signal, in which Ehman wrote one word: “Wow!” when he spotted a surprising vertical column with the alphanumerical sequence “6EQUJ5”. Later on, what he heard that night has been known to everyone as the Wow! signal. But, was never to be heard again. Today, it is considered to have been an astrophysical phenomenon.
It has persisted as a big question in the world we live. In fact, this question has been around, for like time unknown. Science fiction authors have always loved the belief that there must be something living, may be far more advanced than us humans, out there in our Universe, with more than 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that’s 1 followed by 24 zeros) planets.
Life has always been wide ranging on Earth. From one celled amoebas to large elephants and blue whales, colorless to ones with vivid colors, from that exist in frigid conditions to ones in harsh desert

"It's highly improbable in the limitless vastness of the universe that we humans stand alone," according to the NASA administrator Charles Bordon. NASA also plays an important role in the search for life. The launch of the James Webb Telescope in 2018 is said to give an extra boost in the field. The new piece of equipment is designed to study infrared light, making it easier to spot extrasolar planets. According to Matt Mountain, director of the Space Telescope Science Institute, it would take a new generation of space telescopes to hunt extraterrestrials. And, that would need new rockets and a lot of technological
Slenderman Stabbing Today I will be talking about the Slenderman stabbing. This happened in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Saturday, May 31, 2014. When two girls lured their best friend into the woods and stabbed her 19 times to impress Slenderman, a fictional supernatural character that resembles a tall, faceless man wearing a black suit. The victim was Payton Leutner and the other two girls were Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier.
I completely disagree with his points because they are in accurate and display no backing of evidence. Yost’s main claim was that we should cut the NASA’s budget and focus more on humanity than “planting flags on planets” (Yost). The space program is not the only department within the National Aeronautics and Space Administrations control. In fact, there are over 15 different departments within NASA and one of those is the department of earth science and research. The Earth Science and research department within NASA is responsible fore conducting tests on global climate change, in hopes of figuring out the mysteries of global warming.
In his article he takes into account that, although NASA has made many discoveries, it is still not worth the amount that we spend to produce those discoveries. Yost believes that we should be more focused on the lives of our own people, than trying to “plant flags on planets”. The money can be put into other matter such as “MIT tuition” and “feeding and clothing the homeless”, which is much more beneficial than NASA’s results. Yost believes that we need to get it out of our head that someday the earth will inevitably explode, instead we should inspire children to believe that “human life on earth is sustainable” (Yost). Although Keith Yost provides a convincing argument through his use of counter-arguments, he relies too much on pathos rather than logos to support his claims, and displays frequent use of logical fallacies, making his argument
He explains that people would look at this sky all the time, and that's how the realized something interesting happened, such as the star. He said that Jupiter passed Venus, and when the biggest star and brightest star passed over each other, it was the brightest star in the universe. When this happened and people looked at the sky, this became The Star of
“Texas Forever” is a mantra which Tim Riggins, the main character in the television series, Friday Night Lights, lives by. This show is about an entire town obsessed with football and something they base their dreams upon. However, these dreams do not come without compromise. We can identify ourselves and others with the most the characters in Friday Night Lights, and are pulled immediately into their lives since their situations makes them feel like genuine individuals. In this paper, I will argue that Friday Night Lights demonstrates the metaphysical theory of the basic question: “Ultimately, what is there?”
I think not. Cue the music. Planets. The aliens also live on a planet.
Some of the greatest mysteries known to mankind exist outside of our planet. These mysteries are also the most challenging to solve. The curiosity of what lies beyond on our planet existed long before the technology or resources were available to research these questions, so prehistoric humans would develop theories to explain what they could see, being the moon, stars, and planets. Globally, every country has spent an extreme amount of money, resources, and time to research and explore our universe to begin answering these questions. The United States and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, commonly known as NASA, began in 1958 and since then has been responsible for the study and engineering behind all american space exploring
“Authorizing torture is a bad and dangerous idea that can easily be made to sound plausible.” This is a shockingly true statement. Heymann’s purpose in writing this article is to persuade readers to agree with him that torture should not be authorized. Heymann uses the persuasive appeal of pathos primarily in this article to convince his readers to agree with him. Although that is not to say he did not use other forms of persuasive appeal, heymann also used Logos and Ethos, just not as strongly as Pathos.
Evidence and theories shows that the production of life is incredibly delicate, lucky, unlikely, and rare. But to counter that argument, there is also the fact that there are billions of planets in a single galaxy, and billions of galaxies in the known universe, so the likeliness of life starting on another planet isn’t ruled out. 3. List and define some of the scientific evidence and scientific principles Sacks mentions in his essay.
Did you know that Annie Cannon was able to classify around a thousand stars a day during the peak of her career? This paper will be focusing on the life, career, and legacy of Annie Jump Cannon. Annie Jump Cannon was hired by Edward Pickering, and she worked as “Pickering’s assistant at the Harvard College Observatory” (1). After that, she was credited with coming up with an easy system that divided the stars into seven spectral classes. The spectral classes were as follows: O, B, A, F, G, K, M. Annie Jump Cannon’s career ended after forty years, but her work paved the way for women in the scientific community and continues to inspire fellow female scientists.

Supernatural events have been intertwined in a large portion of Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This story would be nothing without the encounters with supernatural. Supernatural is defined as beyond the measure and explanation of Science. To give some background information, In Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, we start off with four main characters. The four main characters are Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Lanyon, and Mr. Utterson.
In order to understand the importance of ‘a sense of wonder’ in the works of science fiction, it is key to highlight the definition attached to ‘wonder’ and the ‘sense of wonder’. Jeff Prucher specifically defines a ‘sense of wonder’ as: A feeling of awakening or awe triggered by an expansion of one’s awareness of what is possible or by confrontation with the vastness of space and time, as brought on by reading science fiction. Prucher explicitly attaches a sense of wonder to be a feeling ‘brought on by reading science fiction’, as opposed to a feeling prompted by any other forms of work.
The television show chosen to detect various personality types is the current twelve season phenomenon known as Supernatural. Beginning the analyzation with the show’s backstory/main storyline; two brothers are raised by their father, who eventually ends up teaching them how to hunt and obliterate the supernatural. This takes place the second their mother passes, due to a demon incident. These brother’s names are: Sam and Dean Winchester, and throughout the seasons they learn how to banish/disintegrate every creature they happen to come in contact with. However, with this in mind, the analyzation will only reveal the personality of one sole character, and that would be the older of the two brothers, Dean.
As much as we may want to know what lies beyond our earth, there are bigger issues that our government must address. More people are affected by poverty than by space. The government must focus their resources and efforts to one problem at a time, and with a third of the UK living under the ‘poverty line’ more money should be spent helping the poor, rather than on space research. If the government doesn 't handle the economic crisis with care, we will all end up poor – but to treat the situation properly requires more funding.
