John Proctor is a very dishonest person and isn't afraid to argue with others about things even if heś completely in the wrong. The crucible by Arthur Miller really does a good job of showing proctors true colors in the play. Many of the things Proctor does is cheat on his wife multiple times with a girl that's half his age and then cuts the girl ̈Abigail ̈ off. He says that he is a very faithful man but that wouldn't make sense because he cheated on his wife and when reverend hale asked him to list all ten commandments he could only list nine and the one he forgot his wife repeated for him and it was the commandment that one shall not be an adulterer which goes against the bible. He also made it very clear that he didn't believe in witches …show more content…
There's more details to each of these parts of the story that will go more in depth of how proctor is a liar, cheater, and a dishonest person.
Proctor is such a liar to so many people around him and he lies to himself and doesnt feel bad about what he does. ̈I never spoke to witches one way or the other. ̈ Saying that and Corey saying before that Proctor doesn't believe in Witches but at the end of the pla Proctor confesses to being a witch and seeing the devil, saying to his wife ̈I have been thinkin i would confess to them... ̈ He decided to confess to the court and lie to them about being a witch so that he doesn't die. He is being so dishonest to everyone, lying to his wife, lying to the court, lying to Abigail saying he never loved her. He seems to keep lying over and over again and doesn't seem to feel
bad at all even though he's very religious and reads the bible and knows he shouldn't do these things like lying to his wife even though he cheated on her.
This paragraph is gonna be about how Proctor is a cheating bitch even though he claims to be a very faithful religious person. When Abigail said ̈ I know how you clutched my

When his wife confronted him and questioned him he got made at her for accusing him even though he literally did. It's also very against his religion to cheat and said nine out of ten of the commandments and the one he missed was about adultery. Proctor continues to lie to people and his wife.
Proctor changes his personality so much and is so bipolar in his thoughts. He goes from believing in god to cheating on his wife and claiming to be a witch and seeing the devil. He says he's a very faithful man and people know him for being faithful but barely goes to church and can't even list all ten commandments. He went from cheating on his wife multiple times with
Abigail to telling her he can't leave his wife and keep cheating on her like he even cared about her to begin with because he cheated on her. He keeps doing these things and still never seems to feel bad about what he does and continues to be dishonest to others and himself until it comes down to life or death.
John Proctor has many traits but good traits isn't how I would ever describe him.
He is a lying, dishonest, cheating bitch until the end when he confesses and chooses to live
Proctor said he did not believe in witches and everything that was said or happening was made up. Proctor told me his belief in Christianity in very strong. With the Salem Witch Trials Proctor still does not believe in witches, he describes the whole scene of the trials as staged. Proctor came across as a good Christian man, but then he lied.
Since this his wife Elizabeth Proctor has forgiving him and no one else knows about the situation because he doesn't want to ruin his good name. Soon after the Witch Trials started, Abigail accused his wife of witch craft and the people came and got Elizabeth and took her captive. John Proctor was not happy about it at all. He knew his wife was innocent so he went down to the church and told them she was and that she wouldn't lie. In this he said that he had an affair with his servant and so the judge said I'll ask her if you did, if she says yes she's free if she says no she a witch.
John Proctor, who’s considered the protagonist in the play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, expresses his sincereness through the world of hysteria. Proctor is a man that can be described as one full of honesty, which he evidently portrays in the play, but the adultery. While he faces the judges, he refuses to lie to them because of this trait . In the play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, John Proctor could be described as honest because throughout the play, he shows his honesty besides the adultery.
We begin to realize Proctor is not too happy with the way things are in Salem nor is he too respectful of them either. He showed that notion when he stopped attending church regularly as stated
In any case, those in Salem don't have the foggiest idea about that he is lying about performing witchcraft, and that prompts to them considering less Proctor. This is on the grounds that witchcraft is against the Puritan lifestyle. As an aftereffect of this admission, Proctor is advised to sign a bit of paper as proof of him admitting to witchcraft. Delegate signs the report yet does not give the paper to the judges since he trusts it is false and doesn't need it to be on the congregation entryway. Delegate, not having any desire to darken his name puts forth the expression, "Since I lie and sign myself to lies!
He is quickly framed by the guilt of betraying his wife and community, setting off a chain of events that leads to his execution. Proctor’s guilt spreads as he tries to uncover the truth about the witch trials and Abigail’s motives. At first, he fears that his news will damage his reputation, but he later confesses the affair and accuses Abigail of the witch trials to get revenge. Although the truth is later revealed, Proctor’s guilt and complicated moral decisions lead to his tragic end.
As the play progresses, Proctor's reputation is at stake and his initial reluctance to confess his adultery leads to him being falsely accused of witchcraft.
He trusts himself and goes with his gut even when everyone else is telling him something different. When he is first accused, everyone told him to confess, even though he didn’t do the crime. But he goes with his gut and doesn’t listen to them. Then, when John Proctor is in jail, they try and get him to sign a paper saying he confesses. He signs it, but won’t give it back.
Proctor says “ You are the high court, your word is good enough! tell them i confessed myself; say proctor broke his knees and wept like a woman, but my name cannot!”. In the quote John Proctor does not want written proof that he was a witch because he wants to protect his friends and not throw them under the bus. This means he cares for his friends and is truly a good man. Proctor says; “ let them that near dead now take their souls, it is pretence to me.”
The Crucible - Conflict Analysis John Proctor Internal: John Proctor’s most eminent internal conflict is over the sin he has committed, adultery. Proctor cheated on his wife with Abigail Williams, and this makes Proctor feel incredibly guilty because in the town, he is “respected and even feared” (19). He tried very hard, and succeeded, with keeping this moral crime to himself. He still walked about Salem as if he was “an untroubled soul,” (21) however, avoiding the sin again would be a difficult task. Abigail flirts with him, in attempt to have him for one last night, and it’s obvious Proctor has an arduous time pushing her away.
During this time, he said “... what is John Proctor? I think it is honest” (page 138 - not cited).. This indicated that John Proctor was trying to maintain a good reputation by being truthful. And sees himself as honest in contrast to others who, in an effort to save their life. Falsely admitted to participating in witchcraft and only values honesty.
He cared greatly about his family and wife even though Elizabeth was often distant towards him. In the end of the play, Proctor chooses to die rather than sign his confession, ratting out his friends and ruining his good name in the town. He did this to protect the reputation of his children so they won’t have to grow up with a lying father. Lying went against Protctors’ views and that ideal is prevalent throughout the entire play. It is revealed that as soon as he had an affair with Abigail, he confessed to Elizabeth the next day because of the guilt he was carrying around.
Proctor motivates to learn how the truth can still not matter if it is not what the court wants to hear causing people to be killed and put in jail. John Proctor chooses to try to hide the affair between him and Abigail Williams , which causes half of the town of Salem going to jail for witchcraft. John is talking to Mary Warren when she is talking to him about the Devil being in Salem and they must find where he is:"I
Proctor is widely respected in the Salem community. However, he has a secret that threatens his reputation. He cheated on his wife Elizebeth Proctor with Abigail Williams. As a result, he has a strong internal conflict regarding his integrity. Proctor is a benevolent man at heart, however he has sinned according to puritan law.
The first impressive characteristic of John Proctor is his bravery. Speaking out against the “afflicted” girls in the way he did could cause serious question of him as a person. From the court’s standpoint John could be seen as directly opposing the court, which would have him jailed, or could even have him be accused of witchcraft. Also, he would have had to have known that Abigail Williams would have immediately accused him of being a witch once he spoke out against them. However, that did not stop him from delivering the truth to the court.
