Jonbenét Ramsey: The Murder Of Jon Batsey Ramsey

984 Words4 Pages

JonBenét Ramsey was a six year old girl from Boulder, Colorado. She lived in her home with her mother Patsy, father John, and brother Burke. JonBenét was known for her beautiful smile and success in beauty pageants, after following in her mother's footsteps in pageantry. This little girl’s sparkly, fun life took a turn on December 26th, 1996 when she was murdered in her home. Patsy Ramsey awoke around 5:30 am to begin her morning with coffee. Patsy found a ransom note and called 911 at 5:52AM. Patsy reported to the police that her daughter had been kidnapped and that she found a ransom note demanding 118,000 dollars. The note stated the child would be killed if the police were notified, but Patsy called anyway. When police arrived on the scene …show more content…

It was found that there was a large list of things that were odd and suspicious to the case. First, the ransom note was written with a pen on paper that were both found inside the Ramsey home office and it included spelling errors that looked staged to be as if a foreigner who did not speak English wrote it. Moreover, when rewriting the note, it took approximately 21 and a half minutes to replicate, which seems odd that someone could spend that much time in their home without being noticed and without the fear of being caught. The 911 call made by Patsy Ramsey did not match the statements made by the family. Technology was used to enhance the 911 call received, which found troubling statements made by the Ramseys, including John saying “we are not talking to you” and Patsy replying with “what did you do? Help me Jesus.” Burke, the brother, was also heard asking “what did you find?” even though their statements said Burke was asleep the entire time. It was also believed John said he found his daughter before he even opened the door to the basement. There was also no other DNA found at the scene and many items of interest were moved around within the crime scene, along with multiple other contaminations. Even though the entire house was a crime scene, people unassociated with the police were able to freely enter and search the …show more content…

First is that an intruder broke into their home, wrote the note, and killed JonBenét. Next is the mother Patsy, who might have had a motive of jealousy from the attention her daughter received, and thus killed her and had John help cover it up. Lastly, Burke may have unintentionally murdered his sister by hitting her with a flashlight after she took his food and ran, but John and Patsy staged it to be as if someone else had kidnapped and murdered her. If the crime scene had not been contaminated, if family and friends spoke to the police further, and if Burke would have spoken in depth about his childhood relationship with his sister – the investigation may have had further evidence to go upon. Nonetheless, the Boulder County attorney declared on October 13th, 1999 that there was not enough sufficient evidence to declare anyone as the culprit. In August of 2006, someone by the name of John Mark Karr confessed to the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, but no evidence connected him to the case. In July 2008, new "touch DNA" technology seemingly exonerated all members of JonBenét’s family in the 1996 killing. However, recent 2016 evidence contradicts that, suggesting that the DNA evidence is actually a mixture of DNA, so more testing is expected. The Ramseys remain to be the lead suspects and even two decades later, the case has inspired multiple conspiracies and documentaries, but it
