The main character, Katniss Everdeen and other people she eventually become close with try to maintain appearances that often contrast with reality, and as the story gets deeper into context, several cases of characters who appear to be one thing, turn out to be another person. As we see that Katniss and Peeta are forced to act as if they are love but have to obey and try to convince the Capitol to keep the lie going and show what romantic feeling they truly possess.
