George Strait once said, “I’ve been blessed with the ability to sing and that has taken me so many places I never would have gone otherwise.” He has had a long changing journey in life so far. He never thought of a singing career until he went into the army and sang in a small country band while stationed in Hawaii. Later, when he came back from the army, he started performing in a country band. That lead to getting signed to a record label, and his career took off. George Strait is a very successful country musician who gave country music a newer sound and made an impact on country music today. Many people call him “King George” because of how popular he is in the music industry , and because of the ways he has affected country music today. …show more content…
Musicians went into an uprise in the 1980’s because of the new rage in country music (Freeland 2004). It was very unusual that a new Nashville star had two big hits so early in his career and that surprised a lot of people. Strait’s new track was a major hit. Both of his albums from 1995 were at number one on country music charts. His second album eventually made it to number seven on the pop charts. Straight out of the Box and Clear Blue Sky were major sellers. Strait has had an amazing track record. Only three out of his sixty-one singles never made it to country top ten lists. He continued to make huge hits and leave a large impact. Straight did a duet with Alan Jackson, “Murder on Music Row” (General Editor 2006). Straight had a sadness in some of his songs which made them so deep and heartfelt. Nobody knows where the heartfelt sadness of his songs comes from. Perhaps it could be grieving his daughter’s death, which made him so lurid, or from a relationship that broke up. Of course, though nobody would know for sure, so maybe these things have a nominal relation to the reason. The songs “Been Twenty Years and Counting,” and “I’m Drowning in Your Love a Little More Each Day,” show a storytelling side to him. The deep meaning in his music shows what’s so great about his music (Freeland …show more content…
Not very many musicians have been popular or successful for more than 30 years in a row, but Strait has. Gregg Swedberg from Twin Cities radio has always heard his music on the radio and says, "there's nothing like George Strait," and "the length of time he has been successful is completely unpredictable"(Breem 2013). With tours consistent for any genre, over 60 entertainment industry awards, and not to forget about the many, many nominations for awards, Strait has done well in his career. He holds records in many awards. One is the most CMA wins, and he also has a record for the most CMA nominations, coming in with 81. He holds the record for the most CMA wins with 22. So far, Strait has been nominated 17 times for entertainer of the year and CMA male vocalist of the year with 25 nominations for that. Strait has won CMA album of the year for over three decades. He has won male vocalist of the year 25 times. Strait is one of the few to be honored in two different decades and hold so many records for awards and is still making history today
Throughout Garth Brooks as well as Trisha Yearwood 's fiercely expected efficiency collection, at one factor Garth simply stood back as well as seen admiringly as his better half belted "Don 't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue." And also after Garth won Entertainer of the Year at the end of the evening, he quickly handed his honor to followers gathered backstage so they can have a look, yet he never ever released Trisha 's hand. Brothers Osborne were called Vocal Duo of the Year, stopping Florida Georgia Line 's winning touch at 3. T.J. as well as John Osborne covered everybody that was resting near them in a team hug prior to making their method to the phase, as well as after their speech, they left with their arms around each various other as well as John wrecked as the momentousness of the win sank in.
Roy Acuff and Hunter Hayes are both tremendous examples of popular crossover artists. Roy Acuff’s song “Great Speckled Bird” was considered a country song due to Acuff’s twangy accent and the instruments he used, but with its unforgettable melody it eventually crossed over to the pop charts (Starr & Waterman, American Popular Music pg. 140). Hunter Hayes song “Wanted” reached number one on Country
Even though, he just had three solo albums Full Moon Fever, Wildflowers, and Highway Companion, which were released in 1989, 1994’s, and 2006. All of his solo albums were popular and had hit songs such as I Won’t Back Down, Free Falling, You Don’t Know How It Feels, It’s Good to Be King, and Saving Grace. Specially, the second album, which was renewed label from his first album, produced by Rick Rubin, sold over three million
Chris Gaines is seen as a more elite artist, with more advanced musical talents and understandings. This fits the rock genre because rock music is seen as a “higher-class” music, and the Gaines style and appearance is certainly received as being elite and higher-class (MacLachlan). Garth Brooks was already known for his integration of rock and pop elements into country music, and Duesner notes that in 1991, Garth released a cover of “Shameless” by Billy Joel, “signaling his ambition to escape the Nashville machine.” Chris Gaines worked with Garth Brooks’s style in that it allowed him to expand on what he already did.
He is also the first country music artist since Clint Black to occupy the year-end
He has music that uses live bands. Some songs are just full of auto-tune that sound purely artificial. He has a few songs that sound a little like electronic music. His music can sometimes be symbolic because you have to think about the meanings behind what he’s saying. The words coming out of his mouth don’t always make the most sense but when you think hard you sometimes realize it meant something more.
In September of 1991, he released his third album, Ropin’ the Wind. This album made history for Brooks because it was the first country album to debut at number one on the Billboard all-genre Top 200 chart. Not only did he make history with his third album, but he also won his first Grammy and repeated as Entertainer of the Year at both ACM and CMA Awards. All together, his first three albums contributed to selling 30 million copies (“Garth Brooks”). The biggest accomplishment that Garth Brooks’s has ever received was on October 6, 1990, when he was inducted into the family of the Grand Ole Opry.
Kenny Rogers was the first one in his family to graduate high school (Larkin, 2002). Throughout the years Rogers had won 3 Grammy awards (Gaydos, 2013). Country hall of fame first introduced Kenny Rogers, than a month later he won the Willie Nelson lifetime achievement award. Kenny Rogers best loved song is “The Gambler”, this song was a hit and two years later he made a movie about the song (Carlin, 2006). His movie is now on Netflix and is loved by both younger and older fans (Streeter, 2013).
Yes or No” is also another great contemporary song with a blend of western swing. George does not originally write his songs but he has some of the best songwriters. Some of the his best songwriters are Dean Dillon, Bryon Hill, and Steve Bogard. George Strait said, “ I just haven't been a very motivated songwriter, I'm just lazy about it. There's so many good songwriters out there …
After Garth Brooks came out of retirement and went back on the road for a world tour, he had a concert in St. Louis that Justin Timberlake flew out to see while taking a break on his own tour. A few weeks later when Justin had a show out in Nashville, Garth came on stage and sang Brooks’ infamous song “Friends In Low Places” with him. Another collaboration that Garth Brooks has done was with his wife Trisha Yearwood, “In Another’s Eyes” from his seventh studio album called Sevens. There is a huge list of major recordings that Garth Brooks has done. He has had a very successful music career so far and after coming out of retirement, I do not think he is slowing down anytime soon with his musical hits.
Hillbilly music was the main genre of music for rural white American’s during the 1920’s. During our class discussion of hillbilly music, I immediately related the genre as the birth of country music today. Hillbilly music was an artistic expression by the people of the rural south. This concept is very similar to the country music that is produced today by musicians from the south who write their music based on what it is like to live in the country. During the time period of the 1920’s, Hillbilly music was only produced and sang by white Americans.
It was a combination of traditional country music mixed with the hippy culture of the 1960’s. The bar scene where this genre was born with a mix of a variety Cowboys, hippies, bikers, and college students. A few artists that came out of this scene were Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristopherson, they were the ones who started the progressive country genre also known as the outlaw country
The singer is known for combining different genres such as hip-hop, soul, R&B, and others rooted in traditionally African-American culture. While some saw his new album
George’s career began in 1981 with the album Strait Country, which “was influential in increasing the radio play of more traditional, less pop-influenced country music.” (Biography.com Editors), and was followed by 39 albums that have been; certified gold, the most of any country artist. He also holds the country music record for platinum and multi platinum. One example of his continuing popularity in the genre is that as of 2013 he was the only artist to have a top ten hit every year for the previous 32 years and his 60 number 1 singles are the most in the history of
The movie gained Strait even more publicity and fans (Carlin, 2006). Winning himself twenty-two CMAs and twenty AMCs, Strait was an outstanding artist. In 2008, he also got the Artist of the Decade. The George Strait Country Music Festival was a very unusual thing for a country artist, but of course it would be George Strait who broke boundaries. He also made an album called Strait Out of the Box.
