Our presentation topic was about the 2017 Las Vegas Shooting. My group members are Michaela Finneyfrock, Riya Patel, Bridget Cichon, Jack Zigler, and Mason Parker-Loan. This event had occurred on October 1st at 10:05 PM, where a man named Stephen Paddock had fired many bullets at a concert from the window of his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. About 58 people were killed and 546 people were injured. He had also killed himself. This shooting is known as the deadliest mass shooting in the United States. This act was unjust and evil due to many innocent lives were affected by being killed or injured. Originally, many had gone to a concert expecting to enjoy the musical festival together, until someone who had bad intentions changed that day. Many innocent lives were affected due to someone who had an evil act in mind. This is an unjust act because many lives and families were affected and hurt due to someone who had an evil mind by doing something so cruel …show more content…
My part of the presentation, I had found important quotes from my article and tried to tie these to the injustice of the Las Vegas shooting. I had explained in my presentation that this was an evil act because Stephen Paddock had killed and injured innocent people which was also an act of violence, making it unjust. I had also discussed how those who were killed and injured will always carry this mark of violence due to always remembering how they were injured or how the loved ones were killed. Also, I had discussed how after this incident, there were people out there who helped one another out, especially those who were injured and those who had loved ones that were killed. People had donated blood, raised money, and we had nationwide support. People were really there for one
When is it Going to Change? Nothing will change, many mass shootings have occurred in our nation’s history. One, author, Steve Israel wrote in his argument article “Nothing Will Change After the Las Vegas Shooting.” This was published after a recent mass shooting in October of 2017 in the New York Times.
The Timothy McVeigh bombing at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on April 19th 1995 was one of the deadliest domestic terrorist acts in the history of the United States, killing 168 with 15 of them being children and injuring many more. The attack by McVeigh and his sole accomplice Terry Nichols proved to be an attack done because of anger with American Government and what they believed to be a noble cause. When analyzing Timothy McVeigh and searching for the motives behind the attack it becomes apparent that the decision to become a terrorist and follow through with the attack best fits the rational choice theory. It is clearly rational choice because the definition and necessities of rational choice clearly
In his argumentized article, Political Strategist Reed Galen argues that Americans are not taking these current tragedies seriously, and are beginning to dismiss them as if they are a normal thing. Reed Galen supports his argument by stating examples on how people are beginning to treat these tragedies and explain how the respond to them today. Galen's purpose is to inform the reader that people should actually take action on these situations instead of going to social media to give their condolences. Galen uses a serious tone to appeal to all Americans that they have to begin doing something to help.
A brief overview on the Virginia-Tech Massacre reading is that it is an approach/explanation towards a male, Seung-Hui Cho, for his killing of 32 professors and fellow students, injuring another 25, and then finally killing himself at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. This reading explains four different yet similar incidents that might’ve lead to Cho becoming murderous and wanting to kill others. In addition, the reading also provides a short introduction on Cho’s personality and how peers around him contributed their own negative thoughts to his personality which led Cho to think that killing is the solution to things. An incident that could’ve pushed Cho to the killing of professors and students would be his professors’
The internet has been used to post all the plans of people. Many people post what they are doing or what they are going to do. People in some occasions post to hurt or harm other people. The video of the Virginia shootings posted by Bryce Williams, whose real name is Vester Lee Flanagan and who is thought to be the gunman who killed two of his former co-workers at the television station WDBJ (Manjoo) was publish and it took the police a long time to find him. The government can stop acts of violence and crime if they see everything that happens on the internet and social media.
Not long after the Luby 's mass shooting I read and article that contained two profound statements that Dr. Suzanna Hupp made about being there during that horrific incident and loosing both her parent. She said she left her gun in the car that day because it made her parents nervous and because of the Texas restrictive gun laws at the time. Some how during the ensuing chaos one parent got separated from her and the other parent and she had to sit there helplessly and watch as that parent was killed in cold blood knowing her gun was so close but so far away. The thing that will stick with me for the rest of my life and the thing I always hear in the back of my mind about where my gun will be . . . that several times during those ungodly minutes
Three people, including a police officer, are dead and 12 have been reported injured after a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs on Friday, November 27. The woman who died was identified as Jennifer Markovsky, a Hawaii-born resident of Colorado Springs. Markovsky is reportedly survived by a husband and two young children. She was the first victim. Markovsky’s father, John Ah-King, wrote on Facebook: “To my daughter Jennifer I’m going to miss so much, I lost you in a senseless shooting in Colorado Springs, Planned Parenthood.
Joseph Joubert once said that “The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be victory, but progress.” If I were to create a Flash Seminar, I would aim the discussion towards understanding, which then can lead to progress in the world. Specifically, understanding about gun violence and steps that can be taken to reduce the amount of victims from it. The sheer prevalence of gun violence in this country is heartbreaking.
Their was 10 deaths including the person who killed the people. These types of things I honestly have no clue why someone would think this is okay to do. I believe if you think about doing these things you need help. These are some of the reasons I could see having tighter gun control would have a positive effect. Now, my conclusion.
Not here, '" she said. It was happening: A mass shooting that would turn out to be the deadliest in the modern U.S. history. And she was standing in the middle of it. At least 58 people were killed and 489 others were injured when a gunman opened fire at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
Today, I attended the meeting called Caitlyn Jenner and the Trans Experience. In the meeting there were 5 psychologist professors who were discussing and informing the audience about the process of transgender, and now a days it is hard for people to expect the reality. The public speaking in the meeting was different because each panelist had 5 minutes to inform the audience about their knowledge and the challenges people face during the transgender process. The discussion was open minded and everyone had an opportunity to get involved.
This article has great viewpoints, use of argumentative reasoning, and shows what truly happens in the hallways of a school shooting. The main person he explains is Eric Harris, who killed over two-thousand students and faculty in a Colorado high school in 1998. He set off bombs all over the school and used a semi-automatic
Some of the people rumored to have influenced the shooters are Marilyn Manson, Hitler, German metal music, and violent video games just to name a few. In reality, what influenced the two was the hate they had built into themselves. It was believed that Hitler and German culture influenced the shooting because it was on April 20th which was Hitler’s birthday. It was later discovered that the shooting was meant to take place the day before on April 19, 1999. It was reported that Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were fans of Marilyn Manson.
Mental illness significantly affects many around the world. In fact, about four-hundred and fifty million people worldwide suffer from one or more of the different known mental illnesses. That is one in every four people. Severe mental health issues such as severe anxiety disorder, antisocial personality disorder, schizophrenia, or sensory perception disorder are illnesses which are common among the people responsible for the numerous mass shootings in America. Many believe the possession of firearms in the hands of the mentally ill are the real cause of mass shootings.
Because there is no legal or official definition for the term, what constitutes a mass shooting in this country often varies (Also, mass shootings can only be defined by statistics provided in recent modern history, because incidences like these may have been recorded in the past, but it is often hard to recover that kind of data, whereas now information from incidents that occur now is easily accessible. (CNN)). According to the FBI, a mass shooting is an incident in which “four or more shot and/or killed in a single event [incident], at the same general time and location, not including the shooter” (Mass Shooting Tracker). However, a more widely recognized definition, is “a shooting with at least three victims, excluding the perpetrator” (CNN). The bar for an event like this occurring is set so low, that many people don’t even realize that these incidents occur on almost a daily basis—they occur so frequently that the mainstream media often only reports mass shootings where dozens of people have been injured or killed.
