There are few theories and concepts in the Leadership chapter. This theories and concepts explain us about how the organization runs and what type of people and talents are needed to run the organization.
First theory in the chapter is Trait theories. This theories focus on the personality, characteristics and emotional intelligence to differentiate the leaders and non-leaders. In this theory, there is also some aspects from the Big Five Personality Framework such as extroversion, conscientiousness and openness to experience and also agreeableness. They are two categories in leadership behavioural which is initiating structure and consideration. Initiating structure in this theory it can define the role of the worker and it can attempt to improve the work place, relationship between the works and the goals of the company. It also deals with people behaviour in the workplace. Consideration is about task orientated behaviour. It focuses on the well-being, satisfaction and the hard work of the employees. Leader who is helter skater over initiating structure maybe that's only the tip of the iceberg worried around characterizing undertaking prerequisites and other parts of the fill in organization security. Moreover, there are also University of Michigan studies which divided in two which is Production Orientated and Employee Orientated. In production orientated is about finishing a task with group and doing it well in any tasks they are giving in group. Trait theory is an expansion of the grand man theory by defining what makes a leader great. A great leader should show honesty, competence, courage, intelligence broadmindedness and inspire. A great leader should also be forward-looking, imaginative and straightforward. If anyone possesses these traits, they are thought to have been born with the characteristics.

Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.
From the mainstream perspective, he has shown different types of leadership. It also includes several theories like trait, skill, behavior, contingency and transformational. Trait theory states that the personality of a person would determine if he or she will be able to lead. In case of Steve Jobs, his personality was radiant and flamboyant. He was confident, committed and charismatic to take any leap or risk with the support of his team and customers to pursue his aspiration (Katzenbach, 2012).
In this regard, leaders and managers can appear at any level of an organisation and are not exclusive of each other (Germano, 2010). Leadership theories identify leaders based upon traits as well as how their influence and power is used to achieve organizational goals and objectives (Germano, 2010). As such, trait based characteristics include leaders such as autocratic, democratic, bureaucratic and charismatic. On the other hand, leadership that is viewed from the perspective of the exchange of power and its utilisation to secure outcomes, are situational, transactional and transformational leaders (Germano, 2010). It is of paramount importance to consider the different types of theories of management and leadership and their potential impact on organizational strategy being that management and leadership plays a vital role in the success of businesses.
This paper will examine the three leadership theories, identify how they apply to my practice, and explore how these theories interact with each other. The Trait Leadership Theory is based on the belief that a person is born with special traits contributing to natural leadership abilities. Studies of famous historical leaders have been used to identify various traits for this theory. Although the list of traits differs from study to study, there are five major traits that are consistent throughout most studies.
Through my experiences, I am able to determine which ones I identify with and those which are useless. As a leader, one must determine which theory they prescribe to and apply it within their organization. I feel that people are taught how to be leaders and are also leaders when put into certain circumstances that require in depth knowledge. Additionally, I feel that employees have a desire to succeed and are not inherently lazy but sometimes lack the guidance required from leadership. Leaders are made, not born. The Great Man Theory suggests that people inherit qualities and traits that make them better suited for leadership. “To suggest that leaders do not enter the world with extraordinary endowment is to imply that people enter the world with equal abilities, with equal talents.” (Thomas Carlyle 1840) While it is true that there are certain characteristics that leaders are born with that predispose them to become leaders, the influence of these characteristics are often overexaggerated.
