Courage is being brave and taking the risk of doing something. In the book Witness by Karen Hesse many citizens did not like African-Americans , Jews and Catholics. Leonora Sutter, a character in the book, is a 12-year-old who is African-American and everyday deals with many citizens not liking her because the color of her skin. Courage comes in many ways and Leonora keeping her head high and not paying attention to it is an example. There are many racist people in the town like the KKK. The KKK is a group of citizens, mostly white people, who are known for a history of violence and hatred towards Jews, African-Americans, and Catholics.
