In the movie Pi’s mother is shown as the typical housewife in India during the 1070’s. She does the cleaning, cooking and looking after the children.

Psychodynamic theory

The movie Life of Pi demonstrates many psychodynamic themes. Psychoanalytical theories that are demonstrated are Freud’s iceberg theory, the conscious and unconscious mind theory, and Freud’s defense mechanism theory.
The iceberg theory divides the human mind into three parts: The unconscious, the preconscious and the conscious. To the three levels of consciousness Freud added id, ego and superego.
