The Rockingham County Partnership for Success Grant awarded by, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use, aims to reduce prescription drug misuse among adolescents and young adults ages 12-25. The strategic plan for addressing prescription drug misuse in Rockingham County was a successful project for field based research. The strategic plan includes a logic model and action plan for Rockingham County Partnership for Success Grant and coalitions in Rockingham County to work together to address this problem. The logic model and action plan was completed by Chelsea Bullins, but is also a document for coalitions to use, contingent upon data sharing agreements. Collecting data for this grant that is related to the field-based research …show more content…
Classes that I have gained knowledge from and relate to this field based research project includes: Grant Strategies and Preparation, Research Methods, and Crisis Communication Course. Grant writing course was one of the first classes I completed for the public administration program. In the grant writing course, we learned how to complete a logic model to submit along with grant applications. Decision making skills, critical thinking, analyzing and goal setting were excellent skills enhanced from taking this course and helped to complete the logic model for strategic planning. Research methods class was a course filled with information on how to collect data and complete research for a topic chosen. Throughout the course we learned different methods of data collection including surveys, interviews, and focus groups. As a part of this course, we learned how to design surveys. One important piece of designing surveys is to have one developed that does not have bias questions or answer
The Reality of the “Hillbilly Heroin” Epidemic in Appalachia McDOWELL COUNTY, March 9—West Virginia’s Bureau of Public Health determined that the state of drug addiction and abuse in McDowell County, West Virginia is increasing in high numbers. McDowell County, known to be one of the poorest counties in America, is a community overwhelmed with the devastating effects of poverty and drug addiction. This is clearly a problem too dire to ignore. Background:
Over the past few years, the addiction of heroin has increased due to varieties of reason in different communities across the United States. The majority of media attention is focused on suburban, white, middle-class heroin abusers, meaning that the majority of America’s effort and resources to end the Heroin Epidemic is mainly for the White Community. Resulting in a dramatic increase of deaths caused from Heroin overdose in the minority communities in the past seven years. In the article, “How the Heroin Epidemic Differs in Communities of Color” by Sarah Childress, mentions how certain minority communities lack medical access for Heroin overdose (e.g. Naloxone) and knowledge of laws to protect the drug users from incarceration, Maryland’s
The first drug court was established in Miami-Dade, Florida in 1989. Drug courts were established because of the “revolving door of drug use” and increasing recidivism rates. Drug courts have the ability to change a person’s life for the better by teaching them how to beat their addictions while providing the proper treatments for each offender. As a result, of the ongoing development of drug courts it is unfair to expect the system to be indefectible. Still, there are many benefits in participating in the drug court system.

“With an approach that involves standardized assessments, early intervention, and promotes teamwork between parents, physicians and educators” Arria, Amelia M. (pp. 43). The rate of prescription drug abuse among adolescents has increased dramatically over the past decade. Prescription drugs are the second most commonly abused illicit drug among adolescents, surpassed only by marijuana. Monitoring the future means that we intentionally generate accurate data that will direct our efforts in designing
Opioids is a big issue because Americans are addicted to drugs especially opioids. After a surgery doctors give patients opioids because they are a pain killer. After patients have been taking opioids they soon are not in pain anymore but they keep taking the pills because it makes their body feel relieved. People get addicted to this and can’t function without them.
Prescription medication abuse has been a growing problem in the United States, and fatalities resulting from this abuse have been increasing at an alarming rate. In just five years from 1999-2004, deaths from prescription opioids have rose by 142% (Paulozzi, Kilbourne, & Desai, 2011). This growing problem has been officially labeled an epidemic by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (PDMP Center of Excellence at Brandeis University, 2014). In an effort to control this growing problem, prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) have been created in various states to try and reduce the abuse of these drugs. “Prompted in part by the diversion of prescription opioids and other pharmaceuticals to nonmedical use, Congress asked
Before the survey questions relevant to the topic are presented, the first 3 questions cover background information that i felt was necessary for this topic. Public attitudes involve the public as a whole, including families, different ages, and therefore it is important to gather this personal information about the respondent. Public attitudes as a whole are important in this topic as victims of crime tend to be the more vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, females, and young people. From this their response to the reintegration of offenders maybe substantially different to those of the less vulnerable groups. Additionally, offenders most likely to be reintegrated into society are those who have committed sexually orientated crimes and as a result of this, women and children are most at risk of being victims of these crimes (Rubin, 1984).
The collaborations in through these relationships has created the development of strategies for targeting top drug issues, and mobilized the 2,000 Elk lodges in enacting them. As one of the few founding member of the DEA 360 Strategy, the Elks have expanded their drug awareness efforts to target top drug abuse in local communities. This partnership has provided the Elks with access to the latest drug trends, giving them adaptability in addressing the drug use in their
Last year, 4 million young Americans ages 12 and older received treatment for alcohol or illicit drugs. Millions more didn’t seek help. Forty-one percent of 12th graders report alcohol consumption in the previous 30 days. The types of prescription medications most commonly abused by people are painkillers (such as Vicodin and OxyContin),

Relatively when compared to the other disciplines such as anthropology, psychology and political sciences, etc., Sociology has the shortest history. The term was first used by Emmanuel Joseph Sieyes, a French essayist. Later, Augustus Comte re-conceptualise the term and introduced it as it now known by many.
Decisions on using open or closed ended questions, wording and question order impact the success of a survey as well and can result in answers that don’t accurately reflect the real
This two aspect will be great deciding factor in the way that the questions are developed in the survey. The survey can be given by several different entities or methods. For example, an outside source, internal department, a mailed survey conduct anonymously,

In this part of the research, I will choose the best survey method in my opinion that is appropriate for Dunkin’ Donuts to determine consumers’ response to the new line of pastries with a distinctive French taste before introducing them in the marketplace. Also, I will discuss the advantages beyond using this method not others. Actually, there are four widely used data collection methods in quantitative surveys; in-depth personal interview, telephone interview, mail survey, online survey and observation method (Lindridge et al.2010).
