Many may ask what the meaning of humanism is. There are countless meanings for this term. For each meaning of the term creates a dissimilar category of humanism. Sometimes, as a result of the numerous explanations, the exact classification of the word could be confusing to the audience. It all just depends on the author and then again the audience as well. One description that stands out to me would be: placing more significance on humans rather than placing importance on supernatural beings or situations. Humanism reinforces liberty to each and every person and the basic rights of a human. It allows humans to be accountable for everything within humankind and the planet. Aristophanes uses satire to covey his message that war was an entire waste. The women used the sexualized image of their bodies as women as a means of fighting back. When the men were sent out for war the women were left back at home to suffer the maximum amount. They were left without manpower and currency to take care of their homes. As a result, Lysistrata took a stand and called out to all of the women for help. The women decided to have a sex strike in order to end the war as shown in the story, “We must refrain from every depth of love…” (Gutenberg.com). It connects back to humanism because it shows how the women suffered from the war. The issue between the women and men was mostly because war and politics, however, the author boils the issue down to a battle of biology in order to uncover the ridiculousness of the wars between Sparta and Athens. All the money the two cities had were used up to fund the war. At the time the women were having a hard time managing life without the help from their men; whether it be sons, uncles, husbands, and/or fathers. As a result it just all turned into one big chaotic mess. The war was not caused by some divine deity, but by the actions or maybe the lack there of the humans
