During the mid 1700’s in colonial America, the English colonies fought a war against the French and natives, known as the French and Indian war. At the close of this war England was left victorious, adding new acquisitions to its colonial empire. However this war would also lead to cumbersome taxes on the colonies, and other issues between England and the colonies, resulting in the American Revolution. The main cause of the American revolution was England’s mistreatment of the colonies.

Britain mistreated the colonies through the stationing of soldiers in the colonies, at the colonies own expense. In his pamphlet, Otis says “If and army must be kept in America at the expense of the colonies…”(2). This explains how the colonies must pay
