Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1968 to Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King in Atlanta, Georgia. At age 5 Martin Luther King Jr. entered a public school. Martin was baptized on May 1936. Then when Martin was 12 his grandmother , Jennie, died of a heart attack. This event was traumatic for him. After this, Martin tried to commit suicide by jumping out of a second story window at his family home. King then attended Booker T. Washington High School. King skipped both ninth and eleventh grades. At age 15 Martin entered Morehouse College in Atlanta in 1944. Martin was a popular student . Martin Luther King Jr. cam under the guidance of Morehouse College President Benjamin E. Mays during his last year in seminary. King then enrolled in Boston University after being accepted at several colleges for his doctoral study which included Yale and Edinburgh in Scotland. Martin met Coretta Scott during the work on his doctorate. Coretta was a singer and musician at the New England Conservatory school in Boston. King then married Coretta June 1953 and they had four children. King then decided ti become the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church of Montgomery, Alabama. King was awarded his degree in 1955 and he also completed his Ph.D. King was only 25 years old when this happened. The night Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person E.D. Nixon met with Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders to plan a citywide bus boycott. Because King was young, the civil rights leaders elected him to lead the boycott.
