MercyHealth Willard is one of a seven-hospital system located in Ohio, and works to improve the health of those in the rural area that are under-served. MercyHealth Willard is a Catholic faith-based institution and prides themselves in providing holistic patient-centered care to those they serve. MercyHealth Willard is a critical access twenty-bed community hospital that provides emergency services, inpatient and outpatient care, along with coordination of services. There is only one 20-bed inpatient floor that encompasses four intensive care rooms, with the being telemetry/general/swing-beds. It employs over four hundred total employees of which just under one-hundred and fifty are licensed medical providers: physicians, nurses, pharmacists, radiologists etc. The hospital sees an average of ten thousand visits to the emergency department, and an average of six hundred admissions yearly. There is only about one thousand total surgeries performed on a yearly basis, which includes both inpatient and outpatient surgeries. On 2/9/17 I was able to meet with Mr. Liwak at Hurley Hospital. He had surgery to remove the external fixators on 1/31/17. His hemoglobin also dropped and he was held in the hospital for some blood infusions. His legs are in cast to below the knee. He is non weight bearing.

The JayDoc Free Clinic is a student-run volunteer clinic that offers non-urgent and preventive healthcare to uninsured and underinsured individuals (JayDoc Free Clinic, 2015). The staff is composed of a volunteer multidisciplinary healthcare team consisting of physicians, residents, medical students, pharmacists, pharmacy students, dieticians, mental health practitioners, social workers, and other allied-health professionals and students (JayDoc Free Clinic, 2015). JayDoc mostly functions as an acute care clinic, but offers specialized services on a weekly basis. The procedures for this clinic involve triaging patients accordingly before administering care, referring patients to specialty nights, or providing referrals to other clinics if the treatment resources are unavailable or inappropriate (JayDoc Free Clinic, 2015). Ultimately, JayDoc provides an educational opportunity for students while benefiting the community by promoting access to healthcare.
Ultimately, by providing services for acute injuries and illnesses, the urgent care center framework has been able to fill the void that exists between the primary care physician and the emergency department. However, a requirement has not been implemented to compel patients to turn to urgent care centers for non-emergency care. Therefore, the advantages of such a system which include reducing emergency department overcrowding, decreasing the financial responsibility of the patient, and making strides towards cost containment have not been fully realized. To bring to fruition the realization of the advantages of urgent care centers emergency department provider reimbursement must be limited and the coverage of emerge room visits be regulated.
Ambulatory care refers to medical services that are performed and rendered on an outpatient basis, without admission to a hospital or other facility. Ambulatory services can include but are not limited to the use of dialysis centers, ambulatory surgical centers (ASC), physical therapy clinics, emergency rooms, pharmaceutical services, radiological services, and dental clinics. This paper will briefly have described the above mentioned ambulatory services, their role in the health care industry and the direction of ambulatory services in American health care system.

We examined the effect of a Patient Liaison in the UNMH Emergency Department (ED) waiting room. The Liaison provided patients with information about average ED wait times and general processes upon request. All ED patients were later surveyed about their satisfaction and understanding of their experience of care. Patients who spoke to the Liaison in the waiting room did not report a significant difference in their satisfaction.
