Military expertise is the most important characteristic of the Army profession. The Army is the first and last line of defense of our nations freedoms and values. It is essential that we as a nation maintain superior knowledge and abilities within our force in order to remain the most capable military organization in the world. Of the five professional characteristics, Military expertise is the most important because with out the ability and expertise to secure victory against the enemy all other characteristics become meaningless.

These fields tackle the complex needs our country demands from us in the national and international areans. Every soldier in every cohort goes through periods of institutional training and on the job training covering these fields. The soldier learns up to a certain level in the tradoc environment then is sent to the force to apply what they have learned and gain real life experience. Then, usually at the next promotion level they return to tradoc to receive the next level of required knowledge. Additionaly the Army promotes the idea of being a lifelong learner and encourages the study of fields according to individual preferences to allow a truly broad depth of expertise across our fellow service members. During the initial phases of the air campaign in world war 2 many allied planes were no match for the axis aircraft. However mismatches on paper do not gurantee victoy in reality. For example a doctor will have been certified by a medical board and can provide the patient proof of their qualifications. The Army is no different. We have our own set of ceritifcations at every level and cohort groups that our client the American people can verify and have trust in our abilities.
The army defines certification as “Certification is verification and validation of an Army professional’s character, competence, and commitment to fulfill responsibilities and successfully perform assigned duty with discipline and to standard” Therefore when anyone sees a solider in uniform they can be assured that individual has met the qualification of morals, ethics, and technical knowledge to represent our nation on and off the battlefield.

They are also like professional athletes because the soldiers of the Army strive to be the greatest at what they do. The Army Profession is a special combination of experts gifted with the knowledge of design, support vowing to serve and defend the constitution and the people of America. The Army Profession is made up of uniformed and non-uniformed members. Both Professionals have to take the Army oath and become sworn in. All Army Professionals have an obligation to gain knowledge and skills, then pass it on to their comrades.
Back in World War One, airplanes were a thought of the future, but they became extremely prominent in World War Two, and essentially ruled the offensive and defensive strategies of the European and Pacific Theater. The Germans were able to defeat many countries through their use of advanced military equipment, as they notoriously demolished France, Belgium, Poland, Norway, and Denmark. Hitler was able to utilize many successful tactics such as the Blitzkrieg and the Sitzkrieg. Those deadly tactics, when combined with the use of airplanes and tanks, was virtually unstoppable. Germany kept advancing its technology until it matched Britain, who was able to consistently match and fend off Germany’s shiny new weapons.
Broadening is achieved through career with experiences and education in different cultures and organizational settings. There are different opportunities in the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) that could represent an opportunity to broadening their career, these are in the area of Recruitment, High Head Quarters (HHQ), Instructor, National Guard Bureau (NGB), Title 10 or a Nominative position. The best combination to broadening and stay competitive is that we can have NCOs that meet the requirements of the NCOPDS and in turn have the growth that the Army needs. Broadening NCOs are better able to operate in complex environments. Commitment, dedication, and motivation are the three most important values when joining the military. Background checks and months of training are required to ensure that the best is selected to stand strong as one for the best interest of all. Regardless of the requisites, hundreds of individuals devote their time to become part of the US military, unfortunately it is not meant for everyone. Even though the system tries to ensure that only the strong get chosen, it has been proven to be flawed. For example, ex-military personal, like Robert (Bowe) Bergdahl, have left base camps or leaked information to express their feelings towards the military.
As a leader, we are obligated to be the prime example and enforce the Army Values and Warrior Ethos. Leaders should apply the army values and warrior ethos every day while on duty and off duty. Sometime as leader we do not notice that we apply in basic and big task. The army has place meaning for the army values and warrior. As leader we have different meaning what the army values and warrior ethos mean to us.
a. The Army White Paper seeks define ourselves as a Profession of Arms and as Professional Soldiers in the era of constant conflict that we now live in. The paper is a thoughtful look into the past, present and future of our profession. It will have top leaders thinking about the direction of our profession and ways to keep the American Soldier a professional in his field. b. The beginning of the paper talks about the Army as a profession of arms by posing the question, “what does it mean to be a professional?”.
In this phase, it mostly involves the performance of military duties in support of the mission either overseas or within the United States. These military duties revolve around the soldiers’ loyalty, respect and personal courage. The soldiers have the responsibility to defend the US Constitution but they are also expected to be loyal to their fellow soldiers, unit and army as a whole. They have to help other soldiers in need especially when on the battlefield. They should also respect their fellow soldiers and those of higher ranks.
In order to run a successful organization, especially a good standing Army, there needs to be quality leaders within the organization. Leaders are artists, remaining flexible and adaptable in order to conform to any certain situation. In FM 6-22, leadership is defined as, “the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization”. The vast majority of successful Army leaders exemplify this definition in their everyday life. So, what exactly does this process involve?
These aspects of equipment and record keeping also affect the functional planning of the U.S. Army. Using a wartime scenario, a Commanding Officer needs to know precisely the amount of equipment on hand, including weapons and ammunition, in order to properly plan an operation. Again giving them the same basic needs as before while they were in Basic Combat Training. While in Advanced Individual Training, they will use tools and equipment that is required for the job in which they applied for. They will have to take care and maintain this equipment as if it were their own. After graduating from both Basic Combat Training and their Advanced Individual Training, they will go out and be assigned to a unit to perform the job in which they trained to do. While there they will be responsible in maintaining and taking care of any tools, weapons, gear assigned to them.
When a soldier and leader applies integrity into their day to day operation, they trust each other to do the right thing at all times. Honor plays also plays a major part in a soldier’s and leader’s work environment as well, that is just living up to the Army Values. Once they develop that habit they’re showing that they are honorable. An individual shows selfless service simply by put others before yourself. This is the mindset one must have especially on the battle field, because in that situation you are not fighting for yourself, you are fighting for the man or woman to the left or right of you so that they can make it home to their loved ones.
