Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” He believed that with determination, struggle, and intellect one can achieve the impossible. By the same token, my perseverance, dedication, and tenacity have allowed me to work with others to achieve a common goal. I strive to become a member of the National Honor Society because I possess qualities of the organization’s Character pillar, which is a worthwhile experience, and have a unique humanitarian service project idea that would follow the pillar of Service. By virtue of my trustworthiness, reliability, and courtesy towards others, I model traits of the National Honor Society's pillar of Character. These characteristics …show more content…
I suffer from a form of seizure disorder that can only be identified as epilepsy. The cause of my seizures is unknown, and I could have one at any time. Since I was diagnosed with epilepsy, I have learned to push past the tough times and negative self-concept, and I have realized that there is a brighter side to living with a disability. So, for the 2017-2018 school year I would like to introduce a week long program that recognizes and helps raise funds in a set donation period where it will go to an organization set on searching for a cure or help care for for those with disabilities that range from hs students to Veterans. To supplement the influence of this project, I would like to use some advisory periods to give current students and Frisco residents the opportunity to share their stories of bravery while experiencing psychological or physical disabilities. In addition, I would ask teachers to participate in a door decorating competition to increase awareness of disabilities. To conclude, I would organize a pep rally to recognize the diverse special needs of our school population. Participants of the pep rally would include guest speakers and winners of the door decorating contest. This endeavor would broaden the perspective of fellow wolverines and others in the community, so they develop greater understanding for those with diverse
As of last year, I became Co-President of the Stand Up Against Cancer Club. The officer positions were passed down to myself and two other friends our sophomore year by senior of the class of 2015. Though our club had a very slow start last year, we are excited to recruit new members and hopefully conduct more service projects. We hope to get the school more involved with our club and want to make a difference even if its only in small measures. Last year, we made christmas cards to send to Brenner’s children’s hospital.
As a junior in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society for doing exceptionally well in my academic endeavors and actively participating in volunteer events. My contributions through this organization have made a significant impact on both my personal development and my community’s support services. The numerous volunteer projects in which I have participated have prepared me to continue helping others in the future. Through projects such as building houses from the ground-up with Habitat for Humanity, I have developed teamwork skills, discovered my management potential, and increased my social network, all while working to provide services for less fortunate individuals in my community. Some

Best Buddies International aims to empower individuals with disabilities through personal development and one-on-one friendships. I helped the organization promote friendships and equality for those with disabilities. I helped the organization educate the campus on social justice issues surrounding disabilities. I served as the treasurer for the Simpson College chapter of Best Buddies International for two years. During this time, I successfully requested money from the Student Government Association to pay for events like the Goodwill Fashion Show and march to End the Isms event.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
Today I am deeply humbled to be recognized as a potential member of the National Honor Society. To me this means I have exemplified everything you look for in a student who goes above and beyond, not just in academics but in athletics, the community and at home as well. I have not taken this selection for granted, as I believe would be a great asset to the National Honor Society. I am hardworking, honest, reliable and quite charismatic too. I hold all the qualities required by the distinguished NHS like leadership, service, character and scholarship.
USNA Essay I never really considered attending the Naval Academy until a Navy coach contacted me. I initially dismissed the email, but then my dad talked to me about the academic excellence and character development of the Academy, so I looked into it. In April, I visited the Yard and witnessed the character of the Brigade and the dedication of each Midshipman to becoming the best version of him or herself in athletics, academics, character, and leadership. They all displayed remarkable integrity and were constantly striving for perfection in every action, and I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of that community that would develop my strength in mind, body, and spirit and teach me how to best to serve others. Each morning in elementary
42 Reflecting upon the entirety of my academic career, I am astounded to consider the accolades bestowed upon me, some of which include ACT Plan Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, Socastee Junior Marshal and Scholars Academy Distinguished Junior, Erskine Fellow, Coker Scholar, Wofford Scholar, Presbyterian College Fellow, and a member of Phi Eta Sigma at Coastal Carolina University. Current club involvement includes the Scholars Academy chapter of the National Honor Society, engaging in various community service opportunities and school functions such as ice cream sales, open mic nights, and more; also a member of the Scholars Academy mathematics club and technology club, participating in mathematics competitions, technology fairs, and Rubik’s Cube solving
I was selected as the Coordinator for SGA’s Freshmen Academics Committee where we are attempting to improve all aspects of academic life at Wright State. We successfully compiled data from a survey that received over 400 responses regarding professors’ office hours availability. In the upcoming year, we plan to re-design First-year Seminars and make improvements to Freshmen Orientation. For the upcoming 2018 year, I have been appointed as the Director of Finance, one of five Executive Board Positions, for the CECS Student Council where I will be responsible for record keeping, paying invoices, day-to-day budget operations, and the compilation of a monthly expenditure report. The Student Council will look to make the CECS better by connecting the gap between the student body and positions of leadership within the
I am ready to board the ship, and set sail – pointing towards a bright future of being an ECU pirate. Being admitted into the Honors College at ECU would be the catalyst to a successful future. As a high school senior, I am considering many universities and believe that being apart of the ECU community would allow me to reach my full potential. Growing up I have always set high standards for myself academically and extracurricularly. I participate in many clubs at my school including BETA club and National Honor Society.
As the BuckeyeThon team captain, I actively support the fundraising efforts for children with pediatric cancer and rare blood disorders. By restructuring fundraising events to include physical activity and volunteer components, I aimed to make them more inclusive, considering everyone's physical limitations. This experience taught me to be a leader who actively listens and collaborates, which I believe is a vital skill for physical
In their groups they were to brainstorm ways they could pay it forward to other people, outside the classroom. With this activity, I allowed them to brainstorm for about ten minutes, while walking around and assisting the students, who were struggling. Many of these groups surprised me with the ideas they thought of. One student thought of visiting the children that suffer from cancer in hospitals, and another student thought of going to a nursing home to visit and aid the elderly. These students were astounding, when thinking of ways to help other people.
For the past two years of my high school career, I have been volunteering for a field trip that’s centered around giving my Special Ed classmates a day of fun where they can relax from the stress of school and enjoy a day off. During these events, all the volunteers would be paired with one another and we were then taken to a station where we would perform an activity and encourage our partners to participate. Hundreds of students gathered around to participate in track and field games that give the children and adults with an intellectual disability, a chance to develop physical fitness while being cheered on. My only regret would be that I didn’t volunteer throughout all of my high school years, I may have been able to make more friends and
