If asked to redo the whole exercise there are quite a few areas which could be improved upon. Our team believed that we could achieve more if the tasks are judicially divided amongst all of us as per individual strengths. However, we should have invested quality time on the integration part where all the individual efforts were merged. Our collective work must have been thoroughly proofread but we forgot to allocate sufficient time for it. Further, it was important for us to identify our customer(s) as the whole operations and marketing strategies revolved around this key decision. We were certain that as consultants we will focus on B2B and target the established distillers like the Beckett’s and Dodd’s. We further sketched the B2C marketing plans for these businesses. However, I have an inkling that not everyone was on the same page with regards to this key decision. As a result, the governing thoughts around these 2 separate strategies were not clear in few slides or at times they were intermingled. This could have been easily resolved with better communication of all key decisions or by a thorough review of the final deliverable. I learnt about the various channels available in the distribution landscape and how the shelf space offered by an established retailer has become an important commodity to compete for (Arnese et al., 2014). It is for this reason, our proposal to the distilleries was to initially target the HoReCa i.e. 120K bars, pubs, restaurants & hotels in the UK which are responsible for more than 35% on-trade consumption in the UK (IAS, 2017).
