The struggles to reach the American Dream are poverty, education, and language barriers. Poverty can cause struggles to reaching the American Dream due to the loss of money. Education that is not completed can also get in the way of the American Dream. Thirdly, if you are not able to the American language, it's difficult to even try to achieve the American Dream.

Poverty is a real struggle, especially when it causes you to be considered "abnormal". People who don't have money, don’t get anything, and that’s a shame. As stated in document D, "No address. No name. Nothing in his pockets." if he had nothing in his pockets, he's broke, which means no one cares. Socializing is a skill everyone must have. You may not be good at it, but you need it. "Somebody said because she's too fat, somebody because of the three flights of stairs, but I believe she doesn’t come out because she is afraid to speak English, and maybe this is so since she only knows eight words." (Document C). To speak to people about important things, you must be able to communicate with them. "She knows how to say: He not here for when the landlord comes, No speak English if anybody else comes, and Holy smokes." (Document C). If you do not speak the language of where you live, you will have many difficulties. Most of these difficulties, will be uncomfortable, or awkward. "My father says when he came to this country, he ate ham and eggs for three months. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Ham and eggs. That was the only word he knew."

The American Dream is difficult to reach, and once you've reached it, you are either happy or sad. Lack of money can really get in the way of your American Dream because, the American Dream has a price, which is money. Education is a big part of the American Dream because people will judge you based on your intelligence. Even if you are intelligent, but couldn’t go to school, people will assume, you just weren't smart. Lastly, speaking the language, is a big obstacle.
