Everyone has their own definition of a hero. Many people think of superheroes who fight for the good of humanity. Others think of great warriors in ancient Greece and Rome. While it's nice to know what heroes might look like, it's more important to understand what makes someone a hero. Odysseus is one of these important heroes whose actions should be explained. In the excerpt “In the One-Eyed Giant’s Cave” from the Odyssey, Odysseus expresses his heroics through bravery, cleverness and honor when interacting with his men and the Cyclops, Polyphemus. In the beginning of the piece Odysseus first demonstrates his heroics in the way he honors his fallen men. When he lost men to a battle with the Cicones he “would not let our rolling ships set
Over the course of the Odyssey, it is mentioned that Odysseus is a Trojan war hero. He showed tremendous amounts of courage when he left his homeland and family to fight. Odysseus doesn’t know if he will ever make it home, and if he didn’t, his son would grow up without a father and his wife might remarry. It is said in the Odyssey that Odysseus was the one who came up with the idea for the Trojan horse, which ultimately won the Trojan wars. During Odysseus’s journey home after the war, he encountered various instances where he was forced to show courage.
Odysseus is a hero Odysseus is a hero because all he wants to do is go home and protect his family. There is many thing that can support this claim. There are many things that can prove otherwise. One reason for this claim is odysseus is smart, brave, and kind and another reason is he wants to go home and protect his family.

Odysseus has proven himself a true hero as in the book and the movie, The Odyssey. The Odyssey is an excellent book to read to find out about loyalty and hero’s.
Is Odysseus a Hero? A hero is someone that would fight for justice, do things other people won’t do to achieve it, and give equality to every single being on earth. In the Odyssey from the author Homer, we can see and share the journey of our main character, (Odysseus), as he lives incredible adventures in a trip that was supposed to be only a couple months but the trip turned out to be ten years long due to a curse that was set on him. Throughout Odysseus’s adventures he shows the reader his heroic qualities as we learn about his strengths, weaknesses, and other personality traits. The most important components of a hero are the journey they take, their leadership, and the change they show over the story. In the Odyssey, Homer illustrates how a hero isn’t just someone who defeats the villain to save the city, but rather something much more complex by displaying Odysseus as the hero. Heroes often
Heroes in basic novels or short stories are mostly portrayed as being nearly perfect in every way. Most heros overcome great struggles while others go on a great quest where they come to an impasse at one point or another. Afterwards, the main characters finish their grand journey and receive a “happily ever after” ending. The character Odysseus in The Odyssey is a solid example of a glorified hero everyone thinks about. Odysseus is an intense fighter in The Odyssey and The Iliad, known to be almost “god-like”.
The greeks had a very set idea of what a hero is supposed to act like. Not very many people met their very high expectations. They thought of a hero as someone who showed honer and glory in everything they did. They also thought that a hero should be proud and clever. Odysseus was considered a hero to the greeks, because not only did he exceed in all of those things but he represented them effortlessly.
Some disagree, arguing that Odysseus is an admirable hero. They might rationalize this by stating he is a hero due to the fact that he was able to remain determined and courageous despite the hardships he and his crew faced. In fact, Odysseus is valiant enough to trick the giant Cyclops, Polyphemus, that had trapped them inside of his cave, stating ‘“Nobody is my name. My father and mother call me Nobody, as do all the others who are my companions.”’ (9.366-367).
The concept of hero has been interpreted in many ways throughout the ages. Hero have gone from knights slaying dragons and rescuing the princess, to heroes who save the world with their supernatural-like powers, to a modern day hero who is someone who has noble qualities and is regarded as a role model. In the epic, The Odyssey, by Robert Fagles, the heroic Odysseus is a well known in Greek mythology. However, although Odysseus is the most respected, honorable hero of Greek mythology he is not a modern hero. A modern day hero is someone who puts their life on the line to save the lives of other innocent people.
A hero is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. In the movie, Odysseus shows that he is a hero by showing off his bravery and courage to defeat several monsters. He showed courage when he faced the Cyclops, when he met Lotus Eaters, and when he went back to Ithaca to see his wife. Odysseus and his men went to the cave to show the Cyclops that they are better than him. The Cyclops got angry when he got back to his cave since Odysseus and his men were eating the Cyclops’ food.
In the epic story the Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is returning from the Trojan war, and on his way home he finds many obstacles ahead of him. Odysseus is the ruler of Ithaca and he is trying to return home to his land. Many creatures try and stop him from achieving his goal of returning home, but he and his crew have to push through and get home. Odysseus portrays bravery and courage leading his crew through these tough challenges. Odysseus heroically leads his crew and himself through dangerous obstacles, but also foolishly endangers them during the journey home.
Some think Odysseus is a hero for many reasons, mainly because he helps many people including his family and his crew. Even when terrible things happen to him and his crew he perseveres and continues on his journey home. Even though Odysseus and his men do bad things like eating the sun god’s cattle there still are many reasons why he is a hero. One reason to support my claim is that he saves his crew many times. One example is when they sailed by the Sirens.
Odysseus is a hero because he saved his men from the cyclops, ended the Trojan war and was a great leader. Odysseus was special because he was brave, courageous, and powerful . Odysseus was intelligent through his good ideas, one of which ended the Trojan war . Odysseus is a hero because he saved his men from the cyclops and was brave enough to stand up to him . Odysseus told his men to build a wooden stake and Odysseus stabbed the cyclops with it and was a hero to stab the cyclops and let the men escape.
Odysseus portrays those three heroic traits throughout his voyage home to Ithaca, which is why he is a hero. Odysseus is highly dedicated to his reputation and ego for the whole of his rocky and treacherous journey. From going up against a cyclops that is five times the size of him, to placing wax upon his crewmates’ ears to mute the singing of the Sirens, Odysseus is brave when he faces his fears and intelligent when he creates lifesaving tools from ship materials. A modern hero can be someone who saves a life or even sacrifices his or her own for someone else. Odysseus can be compared to a modern hero because he risks his own life to protect his crewmates.
In the book The Odyssey, the main character, Odysseus, is a man who is loved and respected by many. In the beginning of the book, we learn that Odysseus has left on a journey and, since it has been many years since his departure, many people assume that he has passed. On his journey, he portrays his many traits, not all of them being good ones either. Some of his good traits include his cunning, bravery, and hard work ethic. On the other hand, his negative traits are his excessive pride, immense curiosity, and rather large temper.
