Discrimination When people think of discrimination, the Holocaust comes to mind, but there are many more examples and ways of discriminating against others. This issue has been going on for centuries, and it is still a problem in today’s world. Discrimination is the isolating of others because of race, intelligence, and/or religion. The idea of discrimination because of race is the most common type of isolation. Just flipping through a history book, the examples of discrimination due to race is evident. The Holocaust, for example, was an inhumane way to get rid of the Jewish race and to “purify” the German race. There was also discrimination in To Kill a Mockingbird:

Others do not want to include them because they think they will slow them down. Lennie in Of Mice and Men experienced discrimination because of his mental disability, “You was gonna leave your big flapper shut and leave me to do the talkin’. Damn near lost us the job” (Steinbeck 358). In this quote, it shows that George is worried that if they hear Lennie talk, they will assume he cannot work, and they will lose the job. This discrimination is a little less common in today’s society than isolating because of race, but it is still an issue in some places and countries. Another major issue of discrimination is religion. As the years go by, the fight between religions is getting worse. The Crusades, three wars between the Christians and Muslims, are an example of religious discrimination. The Crusades lasted from 1095 to 1291. (Baldwin, Dickinson, and Madden). The Christians and Muslims were fighting over control of Jerusalem, and they did not accept anyone of other religions. It has gotten a little better since then, but now the Islamic religion does not accept any Christians. They are even willing to persecute anyone who is not with their
