Adam Wolfe English III H Mrs. Casey 6-20-23 The Impacts of the Olympics The Olympics are a world renowned, beautiful and extreme sporting competition. In which over 200 countries compete for titles in the various categories. These titles win these counties and their altheates international renown. While the Olympics are this great, global spectacle and wonderful tradition, it causes great cost and impact to the people of the host country. The Olympics cause these countries to spend billions to transform the environment, provide services, and in doing so, causing great ecological impact. The Olympics don't take into account anything about the host country. This makes the Olympics unsustainable, unless we change how we run the Olympics. Continuing on this, The Olympics are extremely expensive to run. Counties have to divert funds and resources from their people to host the olympics. “The figure they are using for Tokyo is about $15 billion” (Document B) The clear cost of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is a great example of the cost. The sheer amount of money that is needed to run the games can be damaging to an economy. This money could cause taxes to rise, or could be diverting money from other services.
