After the obstacles he has overcame Walt Disney once said “All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” Everyone has a time in there life where they need to get passed something that is in there way. When this time or times come everyone would find a way to get through it, whether it is asking for help or doing it on their own. When someone says the word adversity one would say you have to be hard working, determined, and strong would pop into their mind. First thing is they have to be a hard worker, Oprah Winfrey had a hard childhood growing up but she pushed through to be the woman she is today. At the age of 14 she was pregnant and shortly after birth the baby had died. Oprah’s education was a huge priority to her and her father. As Oprah Winfrey once said “Being human means …show more content…
Isaac Shelton was just a guy who fell into bad habits. He shows that being determined to get through something can make someone into the best version of themselves. When one thinks of determination they think of “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work” - Colin Powell. When Isaac had to overcome his habit of alcoholism, he had the determination to change his life style when no one thought he could. If you don’t have strength how will you overcome adversity. Bethany Hamilton was a victim of a shark attack, she suffered the lose of her arm. Without her arm she has to figure out her everyday life through a different perspective. Christopher Reeve once said “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Bethany Hamilton is a strong individual that learned how to overcome the struggle of losing her arm, even though she had every reason to give
Bethany is inspiring when she keep surfing even with one arm, she is brave, and she shares the God’s word any chance she gets. Bethany is inspiring to people everywhere, she still does what she is passionate about, surfing, even with one arm. Bethany was out lying on her board in the water with a couple of her friends waiting for some good waves to come through when she saw a grey flash in the water under her. She felt lightning fast tugs on her arm and then her arm was gone along with a chunk of her surfboard.
The ability to face adversity and overcome it is what allows us to grow and learn from our experiences, and ultimately
Living in Conditions that Ultimately Made Them Stronger John Quincy Adams once stated, “patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” In the world today, obstacles have an impact on the way one goes about their respective life. These obstacles range from emotions to illness to social class. How one interprets those obstacles decides whether that life goes down as a success or failure. As a society, we often admire those who take their obstacles and use them to create a better life.
Hardship. Distressing. Trouble. All those are words that describe Adversity. Overcoming adversity is essential for us to live.
Kevin Conroy once said “Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” What Kevin means by this quote is that people will go through bad times, but it is how one handles the bad times. Adversity is defined as a condition marked by misfortune, calamity, and distress.
Adversity. Struggles and misfortunes. Adversity teaches a person many lessons. It helps a person to grow and become a stronger individual. One learns to overcome obstacles and be resilient through the obstacles they come to find.
Many people have different adjectives and phrases to answer the question “what is resilience” but each answer is the same. People know what it means to be resilient, but there are not many resilient people in the world. Not many people could get beaten, verbally abused, and come back against all the odds. To be resilient people need to keep their dignity and their pride and that is exactly what Louis Zamperini, Ed Roberts, Jason Zimmerman, and Frederick Douglass did. These four men had all the odds against them with so much suffering, but they rolled up their sleeves and fought through that pain because they are the true definition of resilience.
Sometimes situations arise that make even the strongest people feel weak. The main motivator that keeps us going is persistence and resiliency. Being able to stay strong and find peace through difficult times seems impossible to the average person, but under extreme circumstances, the human spirit can be stunningly extravagant. Works like Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer and “Master of My Fate” by James Stockdale are just two examples of people persevering through horrible circumstances and making it out alive. Persistence and resiliency are intertwined and are a key factor to human sanity.
Easy to encounter, not so easy to overcome, failures claw at hopes and successes. They bring down those who are weak enough to let them in. They strengthen those that can get past them. I got past one that almost ruined my chances for new opportunities.
The idea that hardships may bring out of someone something they did not know they had within them is something that many people believe. American culture is one that admires resolve in the face of hardship as we believe that is when someone shines that most. However adversity does not always bring out something that was not being shown before but rather gives a new direction to talents that someone already has. Adversity may push some to recognize talents they did not they had, like for example taking an advance class in a subject they did not like but finding they are talented in understanding the subject.
How and why is adversity crucial to one's life and wellbeing? Adversity is the problems you face and the struggles you go through to be who you are. In the book The Princess Bride, Rob Reiner presents the idea that an individual must go through adversity to fully experience the essence of life. This is implying that one must go through the ups and downs of life in order to discover what it has to offer. One example is Truman Burbank from "The Truman Show.
Overcoming advers requires being brave and noble. Also, being able to look on the positive side in life in tough situations. Overcoming illnesses, disabilities, or disfunctional families can be very hard to deal with. Sometimes you just need to keep going and not look back and by doing so a lot more opportunities may appear in life. Christy Brown in My Left Foot, Bethany Hamilton, and Jeanette Walls in The Glass Castle are all examples of people who had to deal with great hardships in order to push them to become the successful and mature people that they are today.
In life, adversity can be a positive or negative, but by definition, adversity means hardship or struggle. Everyone has faced adversity at one point or another, good or bad. Through American history and still today, everyone has faced adversity. Certain groups of people have faced more adversity than others because they have been oppressed due to race and religion, among other things. Adversity breaks one down until they can be broken no more, and although adversity has a negative connotation, overcoming adversity can make one stronger, turning it into a positive.
Michael Phelps, a professional swimmer, once said, “There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, there are no limits,” (¨AZ Quotes¨). This quotes shows that throughout one’s journey they will eventually have to go against many obstacles, and have to find a a way to get through them.
Obstacles can be challenging, and difficult, but people can overcome them by never giving up, always trying their best, and surrounding themselves with families and friends. Two stories that I have read that show adversity are “A Work in Progress” by Aimee Mullins which is about a little girl losing her leg. The other story I read is “So Far From the Bamboo Grove” by Yoko Kawashima Watkins about a little girl that has to leave her home because of war and has very big obstacles to overcome. Aimee Mullins and the Kawashimas both face obstacles that include losing family members, walking very far in intense weather, and people doubting you and trying to stop you. In the end they all make it through the the challenges mentally and physically.
