Fear is one of the main reasons that we do anything in our lives. We try to do well in school because we are afraid that if we do not, we will be homeless. We lash out and drive friends away in fear of somebody hurting. America tried on countless occasions to ignore any fear that we had but in the end, we entered the war because of that one, powerful emotion. After trying to remain calm and have civil conversation with Germany and Japan, that calmness was mistaken for weakness which resulted in Japan making a huge mistake. We were afraid of the Nazi’s crazy idea of dominating the entire world and we were afraid of how aggressive Japan was so we entered to war. At the time America’s president, President Franklin Roosevelt, had written letters …show more content…
Japan also disrespected America’s pleads for peace. President Roosevelt sent a letter to Japan that said, “I am confident that both of us, for the sake of the peoples not only of our own great countries but for the sake of humanity in neighboring territories, have a sacred duty to restore traditional amity and prevent further death and destruction in the world.” (Doc L). This quote is showing how FDR respectfully suggested that Japan think about the impact their actions are having on the entire world and to consider peace. Japan replied to this letter one day later by attacking Pearl Harbor (Doc M). Even though FDR was respecting and did not try to force his ideas of peace down Japan’s throat they were still merciless and attacked Pearl Harbor with “Kamikaze’s” ("How Many People Died At Pearl Harbor During The Attack? - Visit Pearl Harbor") and “killing 2,403 people” (Jones). This is one of the many atrocities that Japan committed that helped push the United States towards entering the war. Another attack by Japan was the Nanjing Massacre. Japan invaded China and went around Nanjing and mercilessly civilians for six entire weeks. They estimated death toll is between “200,000 and 300,000 people”(Nanking Massacre - Facts & Summary - HISTORY.Com”). After hearing about this atrocious event, which took place so almost right after the Pearl Harbor Bombing, America was completely disgusted with the wrong-doings that the
The United States feared Russian expansion into East Asia, and worried about Japanese interest in both Hawaii and the Philippines. The war served the dual purpose of checking Russian advances in East Asia, and redirecting Japanese expansion away from the Pacific region the U.S. hoped to dominate. Impressive Japanese victories over an ineffective Russian military made Roosevelt rethink his support for the war. Fearing a dominant Japan, and hoping to prevent the pillaging of China by yet another foreign power, Roosevelt offered to negotiate a peace between the two rivals. Reluctant at first, a Russia that suffered multiple embarrassing defeats, and a
Roosevelt sent out an executive order stating that anybody that had Japanese blood in them was dangerous to our community and we had to remove them from our country and put them away in internment camps. That included Japanese American citizens. That was not fair for them. Roosevelt believed that all Japanese race was either a spy or someone that was out to destroy our country. Just like now with our current president that states that every single muslim race is a terrorist.
Few days later, Japan’s ally, Germany, also declared war against the U.S. As
These leaders were viewed as war criminals and had to be stopped of their actions. Conventional bombings in Japan took place and killed over 300,000 people. Despite losing a drastic amount of soldiers, this warfare seemed to go on and displayed Japans inability to relinquish. Mass suicidal missions by the Japanese such as, the attacks of Okinawa or Saipan showed no political concerns either. As a result of Japans efforts to show no surrender, they then continued to threaten the lives of Americans and promised to fight with more intensity.
When Japan attacked pearl harbor the United States finally joined World War II. During this period the Allies fought in the Pacific and went after Japan. High casualties from this war because of island hopping in Japan and kamikazes dropped onto U.S ships were devastating and fueled the continuing of the war. As Japan refused to surrender new methods were developed to try and end the war once and for all. Wanting to save American lives, Truman decided to use an atomic bomb on Japan which led to it being dropped on Hiroshima and a few days later Nagasaki, ultimately moving the emperor of Japan to surrender.
December 7, 1941 is a day we remember with sorrow. At 12:55 EST the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor which would become one of the most deadly attacks on America. 2,400 people died that day and 1,000 were hurt. There were three different types of planes used on the attack. Aichi, Mitsubishi, and Nakajima were the three planes the Japanese used on the attack on Pearl Harbor.
On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy carried out a surprise attack that injured and killed both military personnel and civilians on the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. News of the devastation relayed to the rest of the nation. Despite strong isolationist sentiment during the time, President Franklin D. Roosevelt knew of a possible Japanese assault and used the attack on Pearl Harbor as a way to engage the United States into World War II. Although 75 years have passed since this incident occurred, there is controversy on whether President Franklin D. Roosevelt had the skills and knowledge to purposely allow the Japanese government/ military to attack to United States.
Therefore, the Axis’ dangerous developments in fascist militaristic imperialism became a motive for the United States to enter the war. A final reason for the United States' entry into World War II was the Axis powers abusing their authority to eliminate freedoms and install slavery. The documentary states that the constitutional law-making bodies in Germany, Italy, and Japan gave up their
The war between Japan and the United States during World War 2 quickly became one of the most destructive events in modern history. This event changed the course of history with what was and was not acceptable warfare. Before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, America had semi-friendly relations with Japan, which was one of the reasons why the attack came as such a shock to the American people. However, the attack, though not expected, was not a complete surprise to The United States because Japan and America were competing for valuable resources in China which created tension between the two countries. On December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor leaving 2,403 American causalities.
Japan intended to neutrualize the threat of U.S. force by bombing their pacific fleet at pearl harbor. The surprise attack didnt disable the United States navy, but it did immediately result in a formal declaration of war on japan. In 1945 Italy had already surrended and the allies were starting to invade the German captial and on April 30th Adolf Hitler commited suicude and by may Germany surrended but, Japan refused to surrender and continued to fight.

He believed there were a lot more spies in the United States than there actually were. By confining the Japanese the United States would be protected, and that was all that mattered. Many more people would be hurt if the Japanese gained enough information. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor which killed many Americans. People believed that since those innocent lives were killed, it was okay to confine innocent people to protect the country.
When it comes to someone famous giving a speech we expect to play a big part in society and how people view certain things talked about. Franklin Roosevelt has giving many speeches that we look back at or think about all the time. One of his speeches I will be writing about is his Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation which he gave at Washington, D.C. on the 8th of December 1941. It was the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor the Japanese. It was the first thing people of the United States after the attack.
