Upon hearing the word scholarship, many would think of money given to you by schools or organizations. However, I think of achievement. When scholarships are awarded to students, they are typically in recognition of the student’s achievements. (Typically, scholarships are awarded in recognition of student achievements.) If I were to receive a scholarship for my achievements, I would be honored to be recognized for something special I have done or accomplished. Recognition for high academic standing or test scores is also recognition for the great effort I have put in. These scholarships can give someone the opportunity to do something that they might not have been able to do before they were given recognition and help. (Prior to receiving recognition and financial assistance.) When most hear the word leadership, they think of rank and power, such as a president or vice president that runs an organization and makes the decisions for the group. When I think of leadership, I think of one person working to represent everyone so that all parties involved can benefit. I personally feel that a sense of leadership is something that comes easy to me, and I feel that is true for multiple reasons. When I think of service, I think of volunteer work, and of helping others with no expectation of payment or reward. Like most people, I have faced many challenges that have impacted my life and how I live it immensely. It also showed me how much a simple gesture of gratitude can help in a time of need. That experience is what has inspired me to work with all of the community service programs I have, such as the Wake Forest volunteen program and crosby scholars. I take as many volunteer opportunities as I can so that hopefully, like some have done for me, I can inspire someone in this world to volunteer and do good deeds to benefit
