It is unquestionable that not everyone is fit to be a parent. If a mother was forced to be a parent when she was unwilling or unsuitable, neither she nor the child would benefit. Both the child and the mother would suffer from an underprivileged life with all the hardships that come with it, and it all could have been avoided with an abortion. It is apparent that not everyone agrees with that seemingly cruel idea in society, but what is more cruel: making the decision to not have a child in a current point of time to increase the chances of being a more suitable parent in the future, or having a child and raising them in the poorest quality of parenting possible because no one was ready to become a family? Without abortions, there would be mothers who are unfit, unable, or who were raped raising an unwanted baby, and none of those candidates make for good mothers. Sometimes certain situations can be out of their hands. The child growing inside of a soon-to-be mother could be the result of a horrifying rape, and there was nothing anyone could do. Being raped is, quite often, unpreventable, and the side-effects of such an event can be physically and emotionally catastrophic. These mothers, if emotionally wrecked enough, should have the decision to let go of their trauma, even if the first step is the abortion of an attacker’s child. Why should someone have to live nine months with the reminder of what had happened to them, or more if they must keep the child? After the birth, the mother could resent her unwanted child and abuse them mentally or physically. The effects of that very torment would be with the child long into their adulthood.
