Every child gets “The REAL Talk,” but every talk is different. For most African Americans the the talk includes how the world is not a fair place if a person is different, if African Americans want to get somewhere, they have to work twice as hard, and In the US last year, 223 African Americans were killed by police due to police brutality. One third of those people were unarmed, and should not have been seen as a threat, but they were still killed. 12 of these people were under the age of 18. African Americans should not have to be scared to go outside any day thinking they might not make it home. African Americans feel targeted in today’s society because so many innocent African Americans are being incarcerated, shot, and killed. Since 2001, it is 6.1 times likelier to be incarcerated as a black man than a white man. This is all because of skin color. Black Lives Matter (BLM) was a group created to raise awareness for the heinous acts the have presented itself to the black community …show more content…
This is what started the Blue Lives Matter movement, a movement for police officers to be protected. Due to a spike in police deaths the government imposed harsher laws against assaulting, harming, or killing a police officers. The BLM community is concerned because they feel like they are taking a step backwards in the relationships between the community and its people with the local police officers. Lots of people are saying that the movement is unjust because they believe that “All Lives Matter,” but the movement is just simply pointing out that African Americans are being wrongfully targeted and killed. The movement is trying to prove that all of our lives should be equal not one life is better than the
In the article Police Shootings Won 't Stop Unless We Also Stop Shaking Down Black People by Jack Hitt, the author describes a numerous amount of incidents against African Americans that almost always resulted in violent endings. Police are doing a lot of unjust things to citizens, most of which are to generate revenue for the city and to fund their own paychecks. For example, racist officers would pull over someone who is black for a minor incident and have them fined an amount that they are financially unable to pay; thus resulting in an escalating, yet endless amounts of additional fines. They also abuse their powers by breaking laws and justifying it with their police badge and authority. This shows that police who target people of a certain
Alicia Garza: co-creator of the #BlackLivesMatter movement (BLM) advocates that -“Black Lives Matter doesn’t mean your life isn’t important – it means that Black lives, which are seen as without value within White supremacy, are important to your liberation. Given the disproportionate impact state violence has on Black lives, we understand that when Black people in this country get free, the benefits will be wide-reaching and transformative for society as a whole. When we are able to end the hyper-criminalisation of Black people and end the poverty, control and surveillance of Black people, every single person in this world has a better shot at getting and staying free. When Black people get free, everybody gets free.” (The Conversation,2017).
Fatal Police Shootings “27 percent of African Americans are killed by the law enforcement” (Cooke 1) most of these are from fatal police shootings. Fatal police shootings have become an epidemic. The majorities of fatal police shootings are justified as homicides or have not been fully investigated. Plenty of cases have been closed due to false accusations. The turning point occurred when Martin Luther King Jr., Rodney King and many more were brutality beaten and or killed by police officers.
Throughout history, African Americans have been wrongfully convicted of crimes. The Jim Crow era made it extremely hard for African Americans to live a peaceful life. Today, if African Americans are wrongly convicted about a crime or an issue, they do not make it to trial. Their trial beings when they are assaulted by law enforcement, the new lynch mob, Police corruption and brutality has been an ongoing problem within the United States frequently. Though African American youth have been targeted by the police, these events are happening all too often.
In some of Americas society, the African Americans are viewing our police officers as terrible people or as racist. They see them playing favors towards the whites and just doing everything they can to target the blacks. They view at it from a child 's point of view. They are viewing it as the majority of people are out to get them. Police officers are going to arrest and do what they are compelled to do, regardless of color.
Police believes they don’t have to respect people of color ,and think it 's okay to mistreat them instead. The officers been discriminating people of color because they assume every african american are criminal and bad. They harass people of color just to make them feel intimidate. The police kill innocent black people and don 't get charged guilty at all. There’s three side of people which is the people who get affected by it, the people who overlooks it, and the people who just don 't care.
Many officers use racial profiling to an excessive degree and use it as their defense for killing a defenseless African American. According to mic.com, white officers kill black suspects twice a week in the United States. It is the unfortunate truth that black people are more likely to be killed by the police than any other race. In order to properly train law enforcements, they must be taught to not discriminate against someone because of their skin color. Killing someone based off their race is a terrible way of
“African Americans now constitute nearly 1 million of the total 2.3 million incarcerated population.” The majority group of this statistic are people who come from african american backgrounds. The fact that black people are to make up nearly half of the prison population alone, really conveys the rate at which they are being arrested. Black men are often victims of racial profiling by police. They are targeted by police officers, and security guards, and are accused of crimes unrelated to them, simply on the basis of their skin color.
After all these high profile police shootings and many African Americans getting stopped everyday just because of the color of their skin, relationships between police and African American communities are not very good. Many protests have occurred in the US where African Americans have came
According to “The Washington Post”, Last year 963 African Americans were shot and killed by police. Ever since the 1960s Africans has been fighting for equality; in the Eric Garner case and Michael Brown, it demonstrated how White police officers abuse and misuse their power towards African Americans. Since the increase of police brutality communities has had marches, rallies, and even the Black Lives Matters movements as a response to show that Polices’ abuse of power is unacceptable. The Black Lives Matter movement was created after radical discrimination it is a political movement to inform and protect Black Lives. (Wesley Lowery.
From Ferguson to Tulsa to Baton Rouge, there have been countless cases of police brutality towards African-American men, women, and children. Murderers never receiving their justice, given paid time off and being cleared of charges. Families living in fear, left torn apart at the hands of people who took an oath to serve and protect. We see people of all races standing together in protest of something we know to be wrong, advocating for much needed social change.
I’m sure you have heard the phrase, “Black Lives Matter”. The people who protest and shout this in the streets have a point, and they also have facts. Police officers are using racial profiling too much against young black men and women. Action must be taken on racial prejudice because young African-Americans do not feel safe walking around, unarmed black men are wrongfully and continuously being shot and killed by police, and many police have, on multiple occasions, been reported for being blatantly racist.
Cops around the United States have been accused of racially profiling black people. This topic has been brought up by everyone around the U.S. and is very controversial. Studies have shown that the majority of deaths by police officers have been people of opposite color in America. Police brutality in America is a growing epidemic that has shown no signs of slowing down. Innocent men, women, and even children have been killed by police officers for no reason.
A cause of corruption, discrimination and inequality, the cause of death of many innocent lives. Throughout the long history, racism has been a subject of much debate, most notably in The United states of America. There have been numerous actions that suggest that racial inequality might still be intact with America’s modern society, such as the extreme violence shown by the police that has been roaming all over social media recently. This has eventually led to the creation of the controversial “Black lives matter” group. “Black lives matter” is an organization is an international activist campaign that disapproves of violence towards the African -American community.
Young innocent african american lives have been taken away because of police brutality. In America police brutality should be controlled and we should get justice for the lives that have been taken away and the killer is still not in jail for the innocent life they have taken. Many african americans have sadly been a victim of this police brutality, whether they were choked to death like Eric Garner or shot to death by an officer. Racism is still occurring and sadly it’s the people who should be protecting us, instead they are killing the people of different color. You’ll never know who’ll be next, we live in a country where sadly you have to tell someone to be safe before they leave, because you’ll never know if they’re even going to come back.
