Human Trafficking
The debate in the video “Human Trafficking” more funding and government involvement for the projects they need to build a better end of human trafficking. In the video it interprets that human trafficking is being stopped by Ashton Kutcher’s team and himself by creating an app to stop the Dark Web that plays a huge part in human trafficking. Kutcher also talked about how hard it was to see little girls in that situation and not knowing what is going on. It was difficult for everyone except the guy doing it. Kutcher and his team say, “More funding and government involvement for the projects they need to build a better end of human trafficking,” proving the government is involved

According to the article “States News Service”, “Social networks also play a critical role in connecting migrants and smugglers, allowing them to interact and share information.” The article is saying that when traffickers use social media they attract kids to smuggle drugs into other countries like Mexico or the Dominican Republic. Kids do not realize what kind of danger they are in when having a phone, they think they are cool and you have to add/follow them back just for them to text you but that is not the case. Traffickers can get their attention by anyway with using social media. The problem with human trafficking is that is not the only way it can …show more content…
When traffickers are on the dark web they appeal teens so they can take them easier. The problem with that is that the teens do not know what they are getting into and what they are falling for. The dark web is anonymous so it is hard for offcials to track down who is taking the teens but the traffickers are doing is easy because of that problem. The article, “Register-Guard” talked about how lawyers, survivors, and activists made a group and made an amendment to target the bad guys who are purposely using people to smuggle drugs, and how the amendment would protect our privacy and freedom. When making the amendment they wanted to add people who has been involved with human trafficking so they would have a strong argument. After they talked to Ron Wyden he did not believe in what they went through and doesn’t know how much it affects
One of the many things that can make a person susceptible to trafficking is their financial situation. Victims of trafficking might come from any socioeconomic class, but the lack of resources, especially employment prospects, is intrinsically tied to the crime. When people desperately try to escape poverty, they may fall victim to deceptive job practices or sex trafficking. Human traffickers focus on the poor and those who are otherwise unable to provide for even their necessities. Over a third of the world's population, or 2.5 billion people, are at risk for human trafficking since they earn less than $2.00 per day (Cook et al., 2022).
Travis T Alston Jr. Professor Mr. Joshua N. James English 111 8 June 2015 Bridgette Carr Comments on Trafficking Victims Protection Act: A Rhetorical Analysis Bridgette Carr composed the Article “Trafficking Victims Protection Act needs to be more supportive of child victims”. As a clinical assistant professor and director of human trafficking clinic at the University of Michigan Law School she has done much research on this topic. Her article deals with how the government officials, such as U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security, and other government agencies that are responsible for the trafficking of child victims. Professor Carr argues that there should be better ways to avoid the way that child trafficking victims are treated when caught in a sting operation. She does this by explaining
To understand how a police department combats against human trafficking, I interviewed Felicia Grantham. Ms. Grantham is the Human Trafficking Coordinator for Tarrant County 5- Stones Taskforce, a division of the Fort Worth Police Department. She informed me that the TC 5-Stones Taskforce was officially sanctioned by Chief Fitzgerald as an arm of the Fort Worth Police Department on January 1st, 2016, but the vision for it began long before that. Ms. Grantham had her first meeting with then-Chief Halstead in July of 2014 asking if they could start a community discussion on the topic of human trafficking.
Ms, Kuzma presented the Attorney General’s position on human trafficking. The AGs office defines sex and labor trafficking as when traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control other people for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex or forcing them to provide labor services against their will. The AGs office is very passionate about this issue and was an influential member of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) announced to focus of their efforts on ending human trafficking across the United States back in 2011. In the NAAGs efforts they created the Pillars of Hope: • Pillar 1) Making the Case: Gather stat-specific data on human trafficking and create a database that assists local authorities with identifying human
This book discusses the flaws that America has when talking about human trafficking, as well as the shortcomings within the Justice System regarding procedures, policies, and prosecution, and outcomes for human trafficking victims. The book opens with stating the amount of money made within human trafficking and then continues to add on from this topic about the amount of people being trafficked. These two factors then let the author continue to discuss the errors and inequities within the Justice System as well as the overall lack of intervention and support to help people who are being trafficked.
By taking steps forward as a society we can have a great impact on that battle. We must, before anything else, make people aware of human trafficking and the devastating toll it takes on its victims. By increasing public awareness, individuals can begin to identify cues that people might be sufferers of human trafficking. After identifying a victim, proper authorities can be notified. Second, Oklahoma legislature must do more to combat this crime.
With this being said, it is clear that women and young girls are typically the most at risk when it comes to commercial sexual exploitation. In this category of trafficking, traffickers act as “pimps” and sell these women like prostitutes. These victims are made to perform sexual favors to make their captor or captors a profit. Most of these crimes go unseen and
In the United States, human trafficking has taken on different forms than what is normally thought of as human trafficking. It can range from a migrant laborer wanting to get a job to be able to support his family to survive who is then forced into manipulative work to a child running away to get away from abuse that is happening at home and the person that is helping the child get away from the abusive situation at home turns out to be exploiting him or her to make a profit (Farrell et al, 2014). According the International Labour Organization has estimated that 20.9 million people are involved in human trafficking in the whole world, with 1.5 million victims are in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe. In 2011, there were 3,969 convictions worldwide, and there were only 151 convictions in the United States.
Facebook became the largest social network in the world. That can't be a coincidence, 65% of underage victims are targeted on FACEBOOK. The number of people prosecuted for human trafficking increased from 729 in 2011 to 1,343 in 2020, an 84% increase. The number of people convicted of a federal human trafficking offense increased from 2011 (464 people) to 2019 (837 people), and 66% had no prior convictions. Social media has only made human trafficking worse and it will continue to get worse if we don’t do anything about it.
It is important that the public is informed about the nature of human trafficking, how to assist law enforcement in the fight against trafficking, and how to avoid becoming a victim. Like some in law enforcement, much of the public may view victims of human trafficking as participators in the crime, leading to a negative stigma associated with trafficking victims. By educating the public about the true nature of human trafficking, this stigma may be alleviated. Additionally, law enforcement may benefit from the creation of specific ways for the public to report suspected cases of human trafficking, particularly in large cities or areas with high levels of trafficking. Yates (2015) stresses the need for law enforcement to create community partnerships with the general public, civic and social groups, and religious organizations in the fight against human trafficking.
Human trafficking can affect any person, anywhere at any time, yet leaves multiple groups at higher risk for human trafficking. Runaway/homeless youth, LGBT members, migrant workers, undocumented immigrants, racial/ethnic minorities, those who struggle with substance abuse, and others all tend to be at higher risk for becoming victims of human trafficking. In order for human trafficking to be classified as a crime it must fit the three elements of human trafficking. These three elements fall under Act, Means, and Purpose. Act explains what is happening, in this stage people are recruited, taken, possibly moved to another location, and received by other traffickers or those who wish to exploit them.
We are living in a world where one person has an absolute power over another. The groundless trade of human beings in today’s world shows a deteriorated state of affairs which confirms that the greatest moral challenge facing the globe today is human trafficking. It refers to illegal sale or trade of people for sexual abuse or forced labor through coercion or abducting people. Our world is facing from many obstacles created by natural and manmade disasters which further results in problems in every country’s economy and social welfare of every person is jeopardized and one of the problems faced by majority of the nations of this world due to economic downfall is human trafficking. It is one of the most atrocious human rights infringements commonly
Argument: US state department report argues about the how the term of “trafficking in person” been used for activates involving taking another person in forced service. Human trafficking involves taking people from different background to the territory where they can be serve as slaves and exploited, the most affected victims of human trafficking are children and women but it doesn’t excludes men. UN’s has a protocol to prevent, suppress and punish those involved in crimes of trafficking in person. Key points:
“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil but by those who watch them without doing anything”-Albert Einstein Human Trafficking is the trade of humans for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labour, organs removal, commercial sex exploitation and economic exploitation. Normally, trafficking is done by threat, compulsion, abduction, fraud, misleading, abuse of power, vulnerability, giving payments or benefits to a person in control of the victim .Trafficking in person is a serious crime and dignified violation of human rights . Most of people nowadays do not know that human slavery still exists; after it was abolished 150 years ago, its proven when there is an auction of young women intended for sexual slavery occurred publicly in Britain highly policed location and another auction even took place in front of a café at Greenwich Airport, Britain (News by BBC UK, 4 June 2006, 14.31 GMT). These crimes have been booming and become a global phenomenon when victims from at least 153 countries were detected in 124 countries worldwide between 2010 and 2012.
Human Trafficking is a huge problem that we have today that people often think that the problem is decreasing, but in reality it is increasing everyday. Human trafficking is not a new problem it has been a problem in the world for years. There are different types of human trafficking but most of them have similar ideas. It is often misunderstanding as Migrant Smuggle which is not the same as human trafficking. There needs to be more of awareness of human trafficking so people in society know that it is happening and can happen anywhere even in your own community.
