Utilized for thousands of years for a plethora of ailments and other uses, cannabis, has been illegal at some level in the U.S. since the 1930s, and officially band in the 1970s. The topic of illegal vs. legal marijuana has been a highly controversial subject for the past 9 decades. Political, economical, medical, and personal points of view have been made. It seems there is plenty to be said about a plant weed. Recently as many as thirty states and the District of Columbia have laws legalizing marijuana in some form or fashion. I feel the arguments against the legalization of cannabis are short on facts, and seemed to be poised from negative stereotypes. There are several beneficial qualities that cannabis can offer this country. Industrial hemp holds major retail value, and could have huge economic advantages. Medical marijuana has effective uses for those suffering from a multitude of disorders. It has proven to be beneficial with a fraction of the side effects found in pharmaceutical alternatives. History shows that there was neither factual nor logical reasoning to initially outlaw the drug. The American media has persuaded people into believing that legalizing marijuana is the same as condoning it, which is not true. A person doesn’t necessarily have to approve or partake in the use of marijuana to agree with its legalization. The fact is, in the current economy status of the U.S. cannabis has the capability to create jobs, produce ongoing revenue, and increase the overall welfare of American citizens. I think there is enough research and evidence to prove that the legalizing of marijuana at the federal level is beneficial for the American people and the country as a
