Museum Paper Assignment
“Which piece would be my favorite in here?” It was a question that I asked myself while walking into a Philadelphia Museum of Art. For what I have known about Philadelphia Museum of Art, it is one of the largest and age-old museums in the United States. I heard a lot by friends and teachers that this museum would be a great place for me to stop by in order to observe, to learn and understand more about beautiful arts that were created by many talented artists, histories of Philadelphia, the United States and the world. Due to the assignment, I finally had an opportunity to visit the museum. From the first sight, Philadelphia Museum of Art strongly surprised me by its enormous dimension. There was also an imposing garden

I had never been to the museum here; it is completely different from what I supposed the normal museum should be. As I slowly wandered inside the building, I could see many various departments with many kinds of art, which were from the United States or every place in the world. Afterward, the Modern and Contemporary Art department in the first floor was the last department that I came into. In here I was totally impressed by one painting called “Self Portrait With Palette.”
“Self Portrait With Palette” is the oil painting that created by Pablo Ruiz y Picasso in 1906. 19th Century was the foundational century of Modern Art that contained many famous painters such as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, George Seurat and Pablo Ruiz y Picasso was one of them. Talking about Picasso, I suppose most of the people know or at least has heard about this talented and inspired painter. Besides of being a

I was indeed coming to Philadelphia Museum of Art intending that I could see his paintings that I had never seen directly. I eventually found a gallery with many of Picasso’s painting hanged on the walls in the Modern and Contemporary Art department. As walking around enjoying, I was completely attracted by “Self Portrait With Palette” painting. The first reason was its prominence. “Self Portrait With Palette” was hanged in the middle surrounded by many paintings, but it is somehow the most remarkable and different one among others. Other paintings were mostly drawn by pencil or painted in black and white, “Self Portrait With Palette” was painted in bright colors, more simple but easier to get people’s attentions who walking across. Secondly, the painting captured me by the appearance of a man in the picture. As mentioned above, I also felt that “Self Portrait With Palette” depicted the image of the strong man with a little tan on his symmetrical body, standing straight, a smile on his face. These little things still made the audiences perceive the full passion of life throughout the picture. Moreover, Picasso only held the palette in the picture without his brush, I supposed Picasso deliberately do this on purpose to show his confidence in painting that he did not need a brush to help him creating a picture. Likewise, this portrait seemed to be painted confidently without any fixing,
Focusing first on Wilson’s opening piece, it is possible to see how this particular Museum in Maryland, as an institution, is criticized. Wilson, when “mining” the museum in which his exhibition was displayed, found the busts of three prominent American
“wow!” I thought as I stood amazed trying to analyze the significance through each piece of art. Art has always been a form of expression. Although art has been seen as a way of freedom of speech; it did not begin to show up until the 1960’s when their art made by minorities started to be appreciated. MOLAA museum shows an important aspect of U.S. history.
There were many excellent pieces of at the St. Louis Art Museum but the one that intrigued me the most was Gerrit Van Honthorst’s, Smiling Girl, a Courtesan holding an Obscene Image. I chose this piece to analyze because I thought it was comical and I was astounded. At a glance it appears as an ordinary painting of a young lady.
The 1933s was a period in great the depression. Everyone in Americans were hurt by the onset of the Depression. Many were unemployed and lived in shanty towns or Hooverville’s. Arts during this time reflect the struggle the nation faced to meet daily needs. For instance, this was illustrated by art work that shows people’s lives in shanty town.
As I enter and look for parking at the museum Addison Gallery of American Art, I take a quick glance at the building and it looked like a big museum. When I enter the building, I noticed that there were two large rooms with art frame pictures around the walls. There was nothing on top of the floor; one of my first impressions was to ask, “why don’t they use the full size room?”. As I see different pictures in every room, including the second floor, there was one picture that got my attention. It was a medium sized frame artwork with a picture of a young boy.
Of the various sketches, there were many changes Picasso made to arrive at his final piece. It was not a steady progressive change from beginning to the final form, but rather it was one of constant contemplation and deliberation among the many possibilities. He mostly focused on changing three parts of the work: the head of the man, the size of the animal and lastly, the attitude and position of the animal. Picasso’s concerns with the face of the man was shown through his many sketches of it. The sketches start off with a youthful face with no beard but later transitions into still a youthful look but with an unkempt beard.
Response paper #1 Recently I took a tour of the James E. Lewis Museum of art located in Baltimore, MD. This museum is a part of Morgan State University fine arts building. As I walked into the museum I notice the beautiful entrance that consist of sculptures of very important people in history. In addition I was amazed by the infrastructure of the museum and the setup of the lighting in the museum.
Visiting museums is always fun for many people, especially when you are a little kid. You get to see all kinds of different historical works done by the people from the past and present. I recently haven’t been to any museums since I was little, until I got to visit one for this course. For this Action Research Project Paper, I visited Dallas Freedman’s Memorial located in Dallas, Texas. Dallas Freedman’s Memorial is one of the most beautiful museums and quite depressing at the same time.
To preserve and study a creative endeavor gives the museum value of the study, and education to the people. Each time has a unique story to be told by the creativity of the art. It gives the people something to always analyze and think

as a young boy to paint the legs on a pigeon as he went for a walk, then about two hours later During towards the end of the war picasso mad good and important relationships between different artist and apprentices he looked up to. His favorite symbol of himself would have been to be half bull and half human. Picasso was indeed a strange man, but he was a legend. He was very famous in his time of art and in some places they still have his artwork in museums. Picasso was exceptionally prolific throughout his long lifetime.
The Self-Portrait with Saskia was created by the 17th century Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn in 1636 during the Northern Baroque period. The artwork is an three state etching, which is a printmaking process. Rembrandt is known for being the first to popularize the technique and typically used a soft ground allowing for him to “draw” freely. Rembrandt was high experimental and explored many effects such as different weights and colors of papers. The artwork was of both Rembrandt and his wife and was produced two years after their marriage.
The medium of this work of art is made from oil on canvas. In addition, the art piece is figurative and the style is representational. In this art piece, Picasso used plenty of darker colors, whereas, in Matisse’s painting, “Decorative Figure on an Ornamental Background” he uses much more vibrant colors. For instance, in Matisse’s painting he uses: blue, brown, yellow, green, and white. In comparison, Picasso only uses: brown, white, and yellow.
According to the “Fine Arts Museum of Sevilla,” this portrait has some greatest expressive vivacity and elegant sobriety of those produced by El Greco. This self-portrait of Jose Manuel shows how great of a painter El Greco was. He used a very fluid technique in this portrait, especially since it is of his own son (FAMus). This fluid technique of El Greco is a little odd.
