Over the past year there has been a vast amount of discussion dealing with American politics and the American Presidential election. The debates between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton sparked fear in certain races and sexes throughout the world. Of particular interest was the debate revolving around Planned Parenthood and women's rights in America. After Trumps personal take on Planned Parenthood, it became apparent that women's rights could be threatened if he became president. Although Clinton had her flaws, she believed in women's rights and is an advocate for Planned Parenthood. During the election, multiple debates were aired, and during one of the debates the topic of Planned Parenthood came to the forefront. Hearing Trumps argument …show more content…
Lead by the conservative politicians, their aims have been to cut federal funding so that Federal dollars are not going towards abortions. Annas and Mariner (2011) discuss the issues presented to Barack Obama when attempting to pass the Affordable Care Act. He spoke in 2010, reassuring the American people that federal money would not be spent on abortions (p. 1590). With the recent election in America, Trump and the Republican government will bring up issues involving funding to Planned Parenthood. Trump’s Vice-President, Mike Pence has been a strong advocate against Planned Parenthood for several years (Ziegler, 2012, p. 724). Pence argues that, “in offering this amendment today is that millions of pro-life Americans should not be asked to fund the leading abortion provider in the United States” (Ziegler, 2012, p.724). With politicians such as Pence by Trump’s side, it is possible that defunding will be a reality for Planned Parenthood …show more content…
This has created uproar from people around the world, which has made it an interesting topic to research. Being a woman myself, I feel that any defunding to Planned Parenthood will have a tremendous impact on women around the world. However, it is important to recognize Trump’s points when considering the debate. Planned Parenthood creates several services for women and it is unfair to attack the service as a whole over people’s dismay with abortion. Through online newspapers, twitter, and academic articles, I plan on researching the Planned Parenthood debate, which has been brought to the attention of women around the world, and to give peoples voices that are normally ignored,
One of the most effective and crucial programs for women’s health is currently under attack by the so-called president of the United States, Donald Trump. In an attempt to convince the people that he is willing to stand up for everyone, including the unborn, but instead, Mr. Trump is oppressing women and taking away their rights as human beings. Without Planned Parenthood, 2.5 million men and women would be left without affordable, high-quality health care. One in five women have visited a Planned Parenthood in their lifetime. The fact that all of the care and help Planned Parenthood gives can all be lost due to something as petty as abortion services is almost laughable.
With the attack on Planned Parenthood and regarding the video scandal which blew Planned Parenthood in the spotlight once again, is the problem its self that checking the facts are number one. People are so quick to see a video about an unborn child and act, without checking the facts. With Planned Parenthood they do perform abortions, yes but safe legal abortions they do use tissue and organs from these abortions to do lifesaving scientific research they also don’t mention in the video that the patients and the woman and families they make the decision to donate the fetal tissue, for research “this research should be honored not attacked and demeaned. “ What the facts don’t show in this edited video, which actually the video is over three
(Crisco, 2013) Planned Parenthood communicated the situation to their public, by email and social media. The non-profit sent an email to supporters about the funding cut from Komen and asked for funds to replace the money Komen covered for breast cancer screenings. Within hours, Komen’s choice to defund Planned Parenthood was trending on social media sites Twitter and Facebook. People we’re outraged at Komen’s decision, which appeared politically motivated. Debates on pro-choice vs. pro-life, and boycotts of the cancer association roared on social platforms.
“In the Trump administration, it’s always ‘A Day Without a Woman,’” written by Dana Milbank discusses the Trump administration's treatment towards women. Milbank argues that President Trump and his administration do not respect women and their deserved rights as much as they should. Milbank furthers his claim by providing defunding Planned Parenthood as his evidence. Milbank states that Planned Parenthood — “the nation’s largest provider of health services for women” — was defunded on International Women’s Day, the eighth day of Women’s History Month, and therefore proves that Trump is ignorant of women’s needs nationwide. To further his argument, Milbank mocks President Trump by stating “what better time to make this dream come true than on
For years republicans have been trying to defund Planned Parenthood, and at this moment in history, they are closer towards their goal than ever. With a republican majority senate, and a republican as president, the fight to defund Planned Parenthood only faces minimal resistance. Republicans, more specifically the Trump Administration, like to hide behind their religious beliefs and values when it comes to their ideas regarding Planned Parenthood. They tend to only focus aspects that they disagree with while paying no mind to the good that Planned Parenthood does. These republicans that are working to defund Planned Parenthood and oppose Planned Parenthood so strongly tend to only focus on the belief that defunding Planned Parenthood would
Something that had the media go crazy in Texas is that the federal court is upholding the texas law that is putting mostly all of the state 's abortion clinics at risk of shutting down. In July 1st most of the clinics needed to be shut down and the nearest abortion provider is miles away. Some interest group taking having an opinion in the idea of abortion is the “anti-abortion group they had targeted key congressional races across the country and provided financial support for Republican presidential candidates. political spending from anti-abortion groups has increased markedly since the 2008 cycle” (OpenSecrets 1). There was also a bill passed to further “restrict the use of federal funds in abortion procedures” (OpenSecrets 1).
Like every other policy there are pros and cons to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and the officials elected by the people of the United States will have to work together to find a compromise for the country. Most people against the Planned Parenthood Action fund are pro-life and mostly just against abortion, but even if Planned Parenthood Federation of America was defunded, abortions would still be legal and still performed, but maybe even more without the free provision of birth control. The only way to stop abortion is to make it illegal, not by defunding Planned Parenthood. Maybe Republican politicians like Carly Fiorina or Ted Cruz will be able to defund Planned Parenthood Federation of America in the upcoming years, but maybe the democrats will once again block their attempts and keep The Planned Parenthood Action Fund
After hearing these facts’, you can better understand what Planned Parenthood is and that they contribute way more help to are society then just abortions, and by offering these health benefits we would keep cutting back the number of unplanned pregnancies and that would cut back the number of
This recent controversy has raised questions concerning the ethicality and legality of fetal tissue donations and research. It has also spurred debate over the government’s role in funding and authorizing clinics like Planned Parenthood, especially given the ideologically divise nature of the services it performs. As a result of this controversy, advocates and legislators are pushing for changes in federal policy, particularly changes that will defund or significantly reduce funding for Planned Parenthood. Such action could have significant effects on the conduction of scientific research, women’s rights, and women’s access to affordable and accessible health care nationwide. This paper examines the recent Planned Parenthood/fetal tissue research
Planned Parenthood is a topic that is continuously discussed in correlation with the concept of money as many believe that it “...emphasizes abortions instead of preventative care” (Attira). Because of birthrights, abortions, and the controversy that surrounds such issues, many individuals believe that the government should not be responsible for providing funding. Therefore, actually defunding Planned Parenthood is often brought up as a solution to the highly-debated consensus of government-funded healthcare services. Although many believe that creating a barrier between opinion and action is a positive push, actually defunding the program would be more catastrophic than perceived. Defunding Planned Parenthood would mean blocking and preventing individuals from receiving the health care that they are reliant on.
Planned Parenthood is a National issue fighting for abortion access, giving women facing an unintended pregnancy must have access to safe, legal abortion services. Birth control and the fact all people deserve access to birth control and other preventive care, health care equality and the idea all people should have equal access to reproductive health care. For years politicians in Congress and statehouses across the country have attacked Planned Parenthood’s patients’ access to care. But I believe Planned Parenthood’s health centers provide high quality, affordable reproductive health care, to 2.4 million people across the country. When politicians talk about defunding Planned Parenthood, they really mean depriving patients who depend on public
The overwhelming number of people that rely on Planned Parenthood for many lifesaving services, such as cancer screenings and STI tests, shows how impactful the organization is for many people who may have died without their services. Opposers of Planned Parenthood argue that these organizations only provide abortions to women. The National Right to Life organization quotes Planned Parenthood's annual abortion numbers, saying
Donald Trump believes, “‘banning all federal taxpayer funding of abortions will save the lives of over one million Americans from abortions’”(Steven). This statement is false and inaccurate. Instead of those women going and getting an abortion safely carried out at Planned Parenthood, she will go get an abortion in a more dangerous way ultimately putting her life at risk too, which will lead to higher deaths. As Taylor Jacobs said in the article on the Odyssey online, “ Regardless of your personal opinions regarding abortions, it is not possible to stop every woman from getting the procedure if they are unprepared to have a child, no matter what programs are defunded. Thousands of women die from unsafe abortions per year and defunding Planned Parenthood would make getting an abortion even more difficult and likely increase the numbers of deaths.”
Flippen 1 Shaunice Flippen Planned Parenthood is considered a public interest group, which are citizen activist groups that try to represent what they deem to be the interest of the public at large. The most recent controversy in the news today is the proposal by the Republican Party to defund Planned Parenthood for one year, which is expected to fail, which could shut down the government. President Obama and Senate Democrats are willing to shut down the federal government to ensure that tax dollars keep flowing to the Planned Parenthood organization, one of their biggest political allies and financial contributor of millions of dollars to the Democratic Presidential campaign and Party. Lobbyist who works for the Planned Parenthood
So I don’t like to marginalize it in that way” (Otteson 2021). When discussing how people automatically think of abortions when they think of Planned Parenthood, Johnson keeps a respectable manner while discussing that though they do provide abortions to women, that is not all they do. Providing abortions at Planned Parenthood seems to be a small part of what they
