Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of reproductive health services in the United States. Counseling programs and general information about the services it will provide are readily available online and in the clinics. Services provided by the organization include: abortion referrals, birth control, general health care, men and women 's sexual healthcare, emergency contraception, pregnancy information and prenatal care, and screenings for sexually transmitted diseases. Its various counseling programs will answer questions and offer support regarding sexual health, relationships, STDs, sexual orientation, gender identity, body issues, and more (Planned Parenthood Federation of
There are many other women who do not live as well as myself, who do not have the same privilege as I do. These women need Planned Parenthood to prevent disease and unplanned pregnancies. To pretend that these people do not need Planned Parenthood to stay healthy, to survive, is almost as ludicrous as the notion that Planned Parenthood endorses the killing of innocent lives. Planned Parenthood is much more than abortions. It stands for the rights of women as humans, as people who need help, to improve the lives of those who cannot improve theirs on their own.
Through Planned Parenthood, they are able to come and receive STI testing at affordable prices and if needed, treatment. A perfect example is when a sexually active female college student feels as if she’s at risk for a STI, she is able to get tested at Planned Parenthood and receive treatment. College students are unable to afford healthcare so Planned Parenthood provides them with a clinic that they are able to afford and receive the care they need. Through the organization, they are also able to become further educated on safe sex and will take the necessary precautions in the future. College students will also see Planed Parenthood as a place where they can get their questions about sex
The final, and arguably the most important, question acknowledged by Amita Kelly is if black neighborhoods are truly the main sites for Planned Parenthood. The Guttmacher Institute, a research organization centered on reproductive and sexual health, conducted a study in 2014 to determine if such an accusation were true. Their results concluded that sixty percent of American abortion clinics, including Planned Parenthood, are in neighborhoods mainly populated by white families. Kelly portrays an effective argument in defending Margaret Sanger from Carson’s racial
What I would like for people to realize is that Planned Parenthood is more that meets they eye. They are more than people give them credit for, and they are more than an abortion clinic. The services they provide range anywhere from sexual education and contraception education to helping with gender identity and sexual orientation, or from reproductive services to cancer screenings and STI testing and treatment. They services they provide are endless, and all equally important. As someone who has struggled with their sexual orientation and with self acceptance, if I had known that Planned Parenthood provided services such as these, I would have taken advantage of them and gotten the guidance that I needed.
After hearing these facts’, you can better understand what Planned Parenthood is and that they contribute way more help to are society then just abortions, and by offering these health benefits we would keep cutting back the number of unplanned pregnancies and that would cut back the number of
This recent controversy has raised questions concerning the ethicality and legality of fetal tissue donations and research. It has also spurred debate over the government’s role in funding and authorizing clinics like Planned Parenthood, especially given the ideologically divise nature of the services it performs. As a result of this controversy, advocates and legislators are pushing for changes in federal policy, particularly changes that will defund or significantly reduce funding for Planned Parenthood. Such action could have significant effects on the conduction of scientific research, women’s rights, and women’s access to affordable and accessible health care nationwide. This paper examines the recent Planned Parenthood/fetal tissue research
In fact, they even provide contraception services that reduce the need for abortion services among their clientele. Before you dismiss the important of Planned Parenthood, please consider each and every service that they offer including STD screenings and treatment, contraception services, and access to affordable women’s health care. I also ask you to consider what our society would look like if we didn’t have a properly funded, public institution that offers these services. STD rates would skyrocket, unplanned pregnancies would increase, and women would struggle to find affordable access to cancer screenings and other health care services. I encourage you all to spread awareness regarding the truth about Planned Parenthood and the services that they offer.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a nonprofit organization that establishes itself on health care, functioning as an outreach program as well as a provider of various medical services. The organization was developed upon the idea that women should have easy, obtainable access to information and care to ensure a healthy life. Planned Parenthood both promotes as well as establishes this motive as the program itself is “...based on respect for each individual 's right to make informed, independent decisions about health, sex, and family planning” (Charity Navigator). Planned Parenthood was founded on October 16, 1916, in Brooklyn, New York by Margaret Sanger and Ethel Bryne. Margaret Sanger was a strong advocate for women’s health rights,
Planned Parenthood is a National issue fighting for abortion access, giving women facing an unintended pregnancy must have access to safe, legal abortion services. Birth control and the fact all people deserve access to birth control and other preventive care, health care equality and the idea all people should have equal access to reproductive health care. For years politicians in Congress and statehouses across the country have attacked Planned Parenthood’s patients’ access to care. But I believe Planned Parenthood’s health centers provide high quality, affordable reproductive health care, to 2.4 million people across the country. When politicians talk about defunding Planned Parenthood, they really mean depriving patients who depend on public
I hope this project helps me understand the deeper impact of Planned Parenthood and its effects in different communities. During my high school experience,
I will begin by talking about the history of birth control: when it started, how it all began, and how it developed. I will then talk about how women can find many benefits within birth control. I will talk about how these benefits enhance ways of living and why it’s important that the choice of birth control is accessible if wished upon. I will try to find women’s personal stories about inability to pay for the high cost of birth control. Finally, I will then talk about how not all health insurance fully covers the cost of birth control and proceed my argument that all women should receive full coverage
Three percent of Planned Parenthood’s patient care is dedicated to abortions. However when most people think of Planned Parenthood abortion is the first thing to come to mind. People fail to realize that 35 percent of Planned Parenthoods patient care is dedicated to contraception, and 35 percent is dedicated to treatment of sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatments. Not to mention 16 percent of their care is put towards to cancer screening and treatment. People have come to the conclusion that Planned Parenthood needs to be defunded because they provide abortions, and also because of their involvement in selling fetuses to stem cell research.
One position is that defunding this organization will save taxpayers’ money to use elsewhere. It is said that Planned Parenthood has “…nearly 530 million in annual funds” (US News & World Report). This amount of money could easily go to other social issues, not as controversial. In addition, there are many politicians who have spoken out against it and the Commemorative Coin Act was taken off the table that helped research funds for Susan G. Komen, a supporter of Planned Parenthood. The contradicting position is that women also have health care rights and do not want those to be defunded by the government.
Susan G. Komen (SGK) is one of the most influential non-profit organizations in terms of its effort in championing their cause. We have been given the task to help rebuild their image, and offer our recommendations on how to regain public trust and support. After the defunding of Planned Parenthood (PP) and its mismanagement of dissemination of information and response, the question that strikes us was why Planned Parenthood responded to the news and actions of SGK negatively. Despite the fact that it is true, that PP was under federal investigation for mismanagement of funds. Based on the knowledge we gain from analyzing scholarly article, video recommendations and records of communication between SGK, PP and the public, our group propose
The term “pro-choice” has fallen out of favor when the American public. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) recently discovered that the word just does not seem to have the power to motivate the general population in the way it did when it was first coined. And while other pro-abortion groups may continue to use it, Planned Parenthood is attempting to cast a wider net by abandoning it all together. In the modern media culture, the term “pro-choice” has been used for everything from abortion-on-demand to giving parents the option to choosing what kind of school their child can attend throughout their life.
