"We must learn to live together as brothers, or we will parish as fools" (Martin Luther King Jr). That is what was said from one of the most experienced leaders, at during a very judgmental time. Martin Luther King Jr was just one of the many men that changed America. During this time, there was a lot of harassment towards blacks. They were not considered as an equal people. The white American race at the time were very arrogant and prideful. People like Martin Luther played a big part in the civil rights movement. Some of the cases that effected the civil rights movement were commonly known as, Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v. Education, and Bakke v. California.

The court case Plessy v. Ferguson played a big part in what is commonly known as the civil rights movement. It had created many laws that enforced a process called segregation. Segregation was the act of separation because of a difference in the people, and in this case, white and black. The Plessy v. California was the opposition to Brown v. Board of education. The case of Bakke v. California was about a student named Alan Bakke. He was rejected from the school he applied to because of few registry spots in the school. Then, it was publicly known that the school kept 16 registry spots reserved for minorities. To guarantee their spot in the school. Alan took the school to court saying that he should be able to take a spot, and that it was wrong to reject someone with good grades just because of reserving spots for minorities. Bakke fought with the school to get a spot, the court then took the action: "The California Supreme Court ruled in favor of his equal protection claim declaring that the admissions program was unlawful and enjoined the School from considering the race of an applicant.
