What you can do.(15-21) “Hey Black Child” is a poem written during the Harlem Renaissance to inspire those of the younger generation to never give up and to remind them that they can change the world. With anything they put their minds to they are strong enough to succeed. This poem was also used to remind the African Americans that the people before them have changed the world to what it is now and that they can change it also. Before the Harlem renaissance there was violence, separate but equal, and slavery. The nation was against African Americans. The atmosphere of the nation was not exactly what African Americans wanted to live for; because of this, many individuals took to shaping and idealizing the world migrating to Harlem. This overwhelming migration and picturesque image of African American culture created the Harlem Renaissance. A migration started a movement and a movement changed the world. Black lives matter moves towards anti-racism and is looking to rebuild the Black Liberation Movement, the same way during the Harlem Renaissance there were peaceful protests and countless acts of violence against blacks. During the Harlem Renaissance there were blacks getting sprayed by fire hoses by federal officers and ones getting killed with no weapons in sight.
