I am writing you this brief letter because of my concern for the shortage of primary care physicians in the United States associated with the Affordable Care Act. The Association of American Medical Colleges has brought great attention to the fact that the United States could possibly be short 46,000 to 90,000 physicians by the year 2025. 2 The reality of a shortage of primary care physicians weighs very strongly on me because of the fact that I am pursuing a career in physical therapy. If there are less primary care physicians, there will be a much larger waiting line for doctor appointments. Therefore, people will decide not to pursue a doctor's opinion simply because of the increase of waiting time.1 If patients are not accessing a primary …show more content…
In my undergrad job as a physical therapy technician I have been able to view the benefits of physical therapy prior to a surgery and even in some cases the avoidance of a surgery. If patients were able to get that needed primary care they would not have to waste money on a specialty procedure. This would help to cut down on the expenditure of overall health care. In my research, I have discovered that the shortage of primary care physicians seems to be the product of the need for more federal support in order to train a larger number of doctors. The president and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges, Darrell Kirch, M.D., has described that it takes at least five to ten years to train a physician.2The fact that it takes so long to become a doctor means that these professionals are leaving their training programs with large amounts of debt. Since they have to find a way to pay …show more content…

The film The Cure, directed by Peter Horton is an excellent example of an archetypal quest story. Throughout the story the film gives great examples of the calling, departure, experience, initiation, and return. Every quest starts out with a calling. In the film The Cure, Erik was looking for a friend or just someone to care about him.
Health care should not be considered a political argument in America; it is a matter of basic human rights. Something that many people seem to forget is that the US is the only industrialized western nation that lacks a universal health care system. The National Health Care Disparities Report, as well as author and health care worker Nicholas Conley and Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), strongly suggest that the US needs a universal health care system. The most secure solution for many problems in America, such as wasted spending on a flawed non-universal health care system and 46.8 million Americans being uninsured, is to organize a national health care program in the US that covers all citizens for medical necessities.
The first attempt and success to climb Mt. Everest occured in 1953. Since then, almost 4,000 people have been able to scale the mountain, but over 230 people have not been able to climb it successfully. There is a chance of accident or death when climbing this mountain or any dangerous activity. All people should should have the right to rescue services even if they knowingly put themselves at risk because there is always a chance of an accident happening, rangers are there to save people in danger, and there are rescue vehicles being produced to be used in case of an emergency.
It seems like most the time when entering our primary care physician’s office, it is not the doctor we get to see. Due to the physician shortages, most of the time, we mainly see the physician assistant. Physician assistants have all the qualifications for diagnosing illnesses and developing treatment plans. According to Smith-Barrow, Physicians Assistants can do many of the same things that a general practice physician can.
Free healthcare for everyone I believe everyone deserves to be given free healthcare if they can not afford it. Plenty of people are dying because we don’t have coverage for everyone. More people are needing universal healthcare and we should be able to give it to those in need. This is making us look so bad to other countries.
Healthcare is something everyone needs and should be able to get, but right now that is not happening. In America there are millions of people who don’t have healthcare insurance. This is because some can’t afford the insurance plan. There are also millions more who have health insurance, but can’t afford using it. This means that they are paying for an insurance plan, but the deductibles are so high they can’t afford to go to the doctor.
In 2012, a committee of private foundations was formed to analyze the government and finances of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) program which is funded primarily by Medicare with support from the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Resource and Service Administration. GME was established in 1965 to provide continual funding for medical school residents who can provide medical care for Medicare beneficiaries. The committee tasked with the analysis of GME came up with a proposal to completely transform the current accreditation system by merging the two current GME MD and DO accreditations system into one competency based system called ACGME (Single GME). Due to this merger, sociologist Norman Gevitz PhD. has predicted the demise of the osteopathic specialist that would eventually lead to the complete disintegration of the Osteopathic profession (Gevitz, 2014). Although Gevitz is a renowned medical sociologist and historian, the DO’s have disregarded his warning and in response have stated that Gevitz’s claims are unfounded since he sailed to consult with AACOM or AOA leadership.
While the doctors in Italy are fighting for a better system, America is experiencing a shortage of doctors and nurses (“13.4 Problems of Healthcare in the United States” np). This is a major problem because physicians are needed to help the patients and if there are not enough physicians, then who will care for the patients in dire need of medical help? One of the main factors contributing to a shortage of doctors and nurses is that emergency rooms, where the majority of patients come to for help, are understaffed (“13.4 Problems of Healthcare in the United States” np). The reason behind this lack of medical professionals is due to the fact that they too are being underpaid which leads them to not want to volunteer for difficult work when they are not receiving enough pay (“13.4 Problems of Healthcare in the United States” np). If America was to begin paying doctors more than maybe more would volunteer to help out in emergency rooms, which unquestionably require an immense amount of medical professionals to treat emergent illnesses.
Working full time for the past two years, I have had experience being both a physical therapist aide/technician and even an assistant. I have completed observation hours at Gentilly Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, where I was a technician to a couple physical therapy assistants and physical therapists. At Gentilly rehabilitation center, I understood the nature of the work by assisting patients through weight training, teaching them the proper way to move around and assisted with recording the progress of each treatment. While observing patients under a physical therapist's supervision, I also had the responsibility of supervising lower level technicians during my support duties. Then the following year I observed at PhysioFit; I had a chance to
Intro-hook: Imagine your loved one unexpectedly commits suicide. Your mother, your father, your sister, or your brother. A mental illness such as depression can lead to someone taking their life. The scariest part is that whole time you didn't realize they had those thoughts. But the problem is this happens every 40 seconds around the world and we don't realize it.
One in ten children and adolescents will experience a period of major depression (“Mental Health Myths and Facts”). Many avoid the topic of mental health like the plague. In truth, people should be able to talk about mental illness and its repercussions on society and the individual. A minority of those affected with mental illnesses get help. Therefore, it is important to discuss possible solutions to helping those who suffer get treatment.
