The mission of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing is to serve as the collective voice for academic nursing in order to set the standard of excellence and innovation in nursing education, research, and practice. The AACN works to establish quality standards for nursing education and assists schools in implementing those standards. They also influence the nursing profession to improve health care and promote public support for professional nursing education, research, and practice.

There are also opportunities to make a difference in healthcare policy by participating in the Student Policy Summit and Faculty Policy Initiative. Membership also provides access to invaluable data and research publications such as the Journal of Professional Nursing.
