Quiz #3 The Electoral College is a complicated and confusing system. It was created by the Constitution and is extremely outdated. The Founders wanted the the president to be selected by the elite of the nation instead of by the people. That is why the Electoral College was created. The Electoral College system is opposed by many people because of how unfair it actually is. The system is not working anymore which is leading people to not become involved in the voting process anymore. In the past it worked and was effective. People had representation.
Each state gets as many votes as they have senators and representatives of the state. The winner-take-all system is used in 48 out of the 50 states which means all of their electors are awarded to the candidate who wins the most of the votes in the state. Some of the pros of the system is that it protects the minority interests. This includes the representation of small states with populations not as big. It also facilitates a two-party system. It creates stability to have a two-party system. It also gives more power to the states. They get to decide the delegates allowing for participation in who gets to be the president. However, there are just as many cons to the Electoral College system. The first con is one most people have the biggest problem with. It is that the even if the majority of Americans are in favor of a candidate, it does not mean they’re going to win. Another disadvantage to the system is that it discourages people from voting. A lot of people are convinced that their vote doesn 't count. In predominantly republican or democratic states people don’t even bother voting because they know it won 't make a difference.
