'' The Most Dangerous Game '' by Richard Connell is an adventures tale that pits two hunters, Sanger Rainsford, and General Zaroff. This story happened in “1893-1949” in a small island called The Ship-Trap Island that belongs to general Zaroff. General Zaroff is a Russian Cossack and really famous hunter. One day Rainsford heading to the amazon to hunt the Jaguar, but his ship was attracted to the rock on the island and the ship were a wreck. The people in the ship were all drowned except Rainsford he was the survivor. The sea’s waves took him to the beach of the island and there start another survivor story for Rainsford. That motivates Rainsford to wake and hide in a place where the general will not see him. The general gave him some suggestions that will help him during the game he also gave him hunting clothes with some food to keep him alive and make the game more exciting for both of them. Rainsford was a smart man he was erasing his footprint after himself and hid in the most dangerous place that he could find. Zaroffe was smarter and he followed Rainsford everywhere, there was a situation that Rainsford was about to die and the game end when Zaroffe was about to find him. He pointed his weapon at Rainsford, but Rainsford was lucky when the tree fell on the general's shoulder and he gets wounded, with that Rainsford got more time to go further in the island. During, this game Rainsford realized how it feels when a prey being hunted, Rainsford had a lot of skills of how to survive in a place like an island; these skills helped him to be the winner of the game. Rainsford was one of the few that won this game. General Zaroffe was upset when his realized that he was the loser, but he kept smiling as he usually does and congratulates Rainsford of his win. The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game." Hunting is a game where you can have fun killing a certain type of animal, but could be very dangerous at the same time. In “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford is a character that is a very good hunter. So one day him and his buddy's went out on a yacht and went out on the sea to go to the caribbean to look for this island to hunt Jaguars. But while on a yacht he feel of the boat and fell into the sea. Moving on he was on this Island and met this General.
If I find him, the general smiled, he loses” (Connell 5). In this section of the story, Zaroff is explaining the rules of the game to Rainsford. When Zaroff says “If I find him….. he loses,” you can highly infer by this that when he says “loses” he means they die, so he’s practically saying that is Rainsford loses, he dies. Typically, when one knows they are going to die, they do what they can to save themselves, which is what Rainsford did.
Rainsford is left to his thinking to make his way out of the jungle alive with Zaroff on the loose. As he is a hunter, he hasn't had experience in the field of being prey. Rainsford uses his hunter’s mind to trick the hunter, Zaroff, to lure him into traps. “His need for rest was imperative and he thought, "I have played the fox, now I must play the cat of the fable"(12). As he was wary of how his traps would lay out, “He lived a year in a minute”(14).

One of the most prominent topics is how humane hunting is, and whether the killing of animals as a way of entertainment is wrong. This is shown in “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connel. The story starts out when experienced hunter Rainsford falls off a boat and swims to an island where he meets a devoted hunter named General Zaroff.
Rainsford is initially shown to not show any empathy to the wild animals he hunts. Zaroff is no different, with him declaring, “I hunt the scum of the earth: sailors from tramp ships--lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels,” (9). Zaroff hunts humans who have the unfortunate luck to arrive on Ship-Trap Island. Zaroff gives no second thought about hunting humans because he finds them to be the perfect sport to hunt, and finds pleasure in hunting them. These hunters share the same interests and viewpoint when it comes to the animals they hunt, except when Rainsford realizes that Zaroff may be hunting a different kind of prey. Rainsford needs to gain control of his emotions to outthink Zaroff, who symbolizes Rainsfords "steep hill". When he finds that he is going to be hunted his natural instinct is to run and panic, but then he stops to look around and get a grip on the task at hand. Then at a critical moment when Zaroff finds him in a tree, Rainsford panics again because he realizes Zaroff is on his trail and is toying with him. Once again, he gains control of his emotions and formulates a plan.

Two hunters are on a yacht in the Caribbean Sea, when one falls off and washes up on an island. There, he meets General Zaroff, a man with only one desire. To hunt humans. He makes Rainsford (the man from the shipwreck), go loose on the island in order to hunt him.
Comparing and Contrasting: ‘The Most Dangerous Game’ The short story and film version of The Most Dangerous Game contain both similarities and differences. There are always going to be changes form book to movie no matter what. The plot of both of these is the same though; A man is lost on an island and meets General Zaroff. The man is very fortunate at the time because General Zaroff is welcoming.

Firstly, in the story The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because on the island the only way to live is if the stranded people hunt or the stranded will in contrast become the ones being hunted. In the beginning of the story Rainsford is talking to Whitney about jaguars. Whitney is stating that the jaguars must feel some sort of feeling like fear or terror but in contrast Rainsford states that the jaguars have no understanding of feelings. Then Rainsford is put on a island where he symbolically represents the jaguar and General Zaroff would symbolically represent the hunter.

He believes all living wildlife are expendable and only there for his pleasure of hunting. During the story Rainsford has to make many quick and overall difficult decisions during his encounters with the ocean, General Zaroff, and the island wilderness to survive, that change how he thinks about animals.
