“One sigh after another, Mulan sat opposite the door weaving; but no sound of the shuttle was heard, Except the sighs of the girl...” Hua mulan's story, is what we hear since childhood, The Song of Mulan is often come to my mind and make me think of the acient life in the army. The book from Foreign Laguage Teaching and Research Press has introduced Mulan to me as a different image.
She is no longer the big heroine in the history, but a shy and sensitive girl who is keen to get his father’s affirmation. If there has no accident, she will grow up peaceful and get marry with someone else.Unfortunately, the quite life always flies so fast and the enemy had invaded China.although Mulan’s father was too old and weak to fight, he had to join the army because he had no son. Meanwhile, Mulan was worried about him and decided to take his place in the army.

It is not hard to imagine how difficult for a girl to survive at the soldier’s camp and even fight the enemy army. Mulan was not strong enough as a man, but she was smart and worked hard during the trainnig for the new sodilers. In this book, Mulan was a fornate girl than the real person, she created a avalanche which whelmed the enemy soldiers and ended the war. Meantime, the general finally found out that Mulan was a girl for her injuries. She was abandoned by her comrades, then she found out that the leader of the enemy soliders was still alive and prepare to attack the Emperor. Mulan saved the Emperor who pardons her for her cheating and give honor to her. Finally, Mulan returned home with the Emperor's gifts. While contemplating beauty standards in Chinese society in “No Name Woman” Maxine Kingston thinks, “Sister used to sit on their beds and cry together… as their mothers or their slaves removed the bandages for a few minutes each night and let the blood gush back into their veins” (9). From a young age girls are expected to be binding their feet and are told that it is to look beautiful, but in reality that is not why. When a womans feet are bound they are restrained and silenced. These girls could be free and happy but they are restrained by men through this binding.

Getting through a war is hard enough and maintaining your childhood at the same time is not an easy concept for anyone to do. Marji hears her parents talking about the revolution and instead of just being the average teenager and not caring she goes into reading books to figure out information. Figuring out what is going on within her society and the world is a clear characteristic of coming of age because at that age all kids care about is toys. After getting yelling at Marji for bullying her mother points out the ignorance that the other kids: “My God! He repeats what they tell him” (Satrapi 46).
By her doing this, he claims that she had dishonored him. Mulan's father tells her that it would be an honor for him to be in this war. He would be protecting his country and his family's honor. In the beginning of the movie, Mulan is getting ready with the help of a few ladies. These ladies tell Mulan some of the things that they think she should have to bring honor to her family.

Once you step inside the life of a “harami”,you’ll never be the same with your new insight. The story starts with two interchangeable characters, Laila and Mariam. Similar in many ways, both of these women are introduced in the novel as young children. The author expertly describes events Laila and Mariam encountered within their everyday lives that has either affected them or helped them progress and deal with the modern rules for women rooted within Afghanistan.
This is a contradictory character with many complicated personalities: covers by meekness, frailty, some time seems tearful but in the key moments she completely proves herself by the strength, independence and wiseness.
