Reb Saunders would only speak to his son about the Hasidic religion. For Danny’s childhood and much of his young adult life, he had no one to turn to for advice on life. This style of parenting was not understood by Mr.Malter, who viewed it as a cruel way to raise a child. Reb Saunders raised his son in silence in an effort that his son would feel pain, and thus have compassion for others. Although Reb Saunders is a great man, he is not easily understood, like Mr.Malter claimed in “The Chosen.” Unlike Reb Saunders, Michelangelo is not difficult to understand. ' It feels terrible to have a great scholar like Graetz call Hasidim vulgar and disgusting. I never thought of my father as a priest of Baal.
He depends on others for help since he can no longer help himself. Finally, Reb Saunders, a highly looked upon Rabbi, earned the becoming title of a trustworthy man. In Chaim Potok’s novel, The Chosen, Reb Saunders, who is Danny’s father, is a very interesting and wise man. His techniques and beliefs for raising his son is strange and unorthodox but it is what he believes will help grow his son’s soul. He is not your typical father and being Jewish plays a role in his decisions. In the book we see how his actions are used and end with fruitful results. They know that Reb Saunders did this to teach his son compassion, and that Danny does not resent for him raising him in this way. In fact, he even appreciates it, and says that “if [he] can't find another way” (Potok 290), he will also raise his son in silence. The fact that he uses those words implies that he will indeed search for another way, meaning that even though he can see why his father would raise him in such a way, he will search for alternative ways to raise his son to be compassionate. The fact that he will be looking for alternative ways suggests that he will not be living as a Hasid, since he will not be bound by their ideas. Some may say that the fact that he would consider raising his child in silence proves that he would remain a Hasid, but they are forgetting that raising your child in silence is not strictly Hasidic.
6. This quote directly shows the connection between the major ideas in this books and the small stories and pieces of text that are found within this book. In this quote, the author writes, “We are at our most perfect when we have something to push against.” This sentence relates to the bigger idea in the book that competition is a prerequisite to genius. When you are competing for something, you are always at full capacity because you have a desire to do something, something to work for. When you are in this state, genius has to have a better chance of popping through because genius is a showing of the best and brightest ideas that we have to offer and these ideas can really only be unlocked when we are putting forth our best effort, which is triggered by competition.

The concept of this paper is to provide an analytical view of the various artistic influences that are present in Prometheus Bound (fig. 1) by Rubens, and how Rubens individual artistic style continued on to influence proceeding artists. This will be achieved through the comparison of Rubens work with that of other masters of his past and present time such as Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Titian, Jordaens, and Rembrandt. Prometheus Bound was painted after Rubens had moved back to Antwerp, during a short stylistic change in his career from 1608-1612 that was characterized by a strong contrast between light and dark. This phase of Rubens work was influenced by Caravaggio’s strong use of chiaroscuro and Michelangelo’s muscular figures that appeared
“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it,” by Michelangelo Buonarroti. Michelangelo was a very famous Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter, poet, and an architect during his lifetime, and his paintings and sculptures are well known. Michelangelo soon started to lean towards architecture but his father had told him that it was too below their status.
At age 17, Michelangelo had begun to dissect corpses from the local church graveyard to gain a much deeper understanding of the human body. Michelangelo had to be extremely cautious when examining corpses seeing as the act was strictly banned by the church, making the act illegal. Nonetheless, Michelangelo still had an amazing understanding of the human body and its proportions were extremely critical to his success rate as a sculptor and artist. Michelangelo’s incredibly realistic sculptures showed finely chiseled veins, wrinkles, muscles, bones, and nerves. Such skill was and still is unsurpassed till this day in the 21st century.
