THE TRAGIC MURDER OF PATRICK MALONEY On February 35th Patrick Maloney was horrifically murdered. His wife Mary Maloney reportedly had go the grocery store and when she had returned she found his lifeless body on the floor. After recovering from her shock, Mrs. Maloney called the police. Detectives O’Malley and Noonan showed up to the crime scene, where later more detectives, doctors and a photographer came to investigate and the body was carried away on a stretcher. It was soon discovered by detective Noonan that Mr. Maloney had been hit on the head and that the murder weapon was most likely a large piece metal. For hours, they searched but could not find any weapon or anything that could have been used for a weapon. So far, the weapon and the murderer have not been found. THE LIFE OF PATICK MALONEY Patrick Maloney was born December 3, 1920. He lived in Washington state until he and his family moved to Illinois at the age of 6. There he met his wife, Mary Dunkin. Being forced to follow strict rules all the time to meet society 's standards can be tremendously stressful and overwhelming. Jing-mei utters to herself in dismay , “i hate the tests, the raised hopes and failed expectations” (Tan, 2). Jing-mei clearly illustrates the agony she is in as a result of parading the stern rules set by her mother. She feels the immense pressure of being forced to fit into a modern culture allowing her not to be herself which has most definitely taken a toll on her character.
She had to suffer through her mother’s tests and expectations. When Jing-mei is older, she becomes happier and she realizes that something sad can always turn happy, just like her life. In conclusion, Jing-mei discovers her identity by playing a very special song on the piano.
After reviewing the data and severity of the injury, lab experts made it clear that a suicide would be impossible. Her mother really never bother asking her mother what Jing-mei wanted in her future, what she wanted to become or her interest in life. She really didn't have that bond with her mom like some other mother and daughters. In conclusion Jing-Mei mother did not really let Jing-Mei be herself. Her mother and her being immigrants in United States is something Jing- Mei mother to take advantage from because she did think he daughter can become whatever she wanted to be in life.

Throughout the story, it is consistently hinted that Jing Mei would eventually explode against her mother as an attempt to free herself from her mother’s chains. In addition, after the fiasco at the piano recital, she eventually derives further from her mother’s wishes as she “didn 't get straight A...didn 't become class president...didn 't get into Stanford...dropped out of college.” (54). On the flip side, Jing Mei’s mother is a stereotypical Chinese parent who is fully determined to ensure her daughter’s success in a new environment.
Holidays are something everyone celebrates, yet certain ones get more recognition than others. A considerable amount of people have at least heard of St. Patrick 's Day, but few can say that they go much further than pinching those who don 't wear green.
