Rick Riordan is a two time Mark Twain Award winner as well as the winner of the Children's Choice Book Awards for Author of the Year in 2011. J. K. Rowling completed her first draft of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone on an old manual typewriter. Rick Riordan and J. K. Rowling are two great and well known authors.
Rick Riordan and J. K. Rowling both had rises and falls during their early lives. Rick Riordan was born on July 5th 1964 in San Antonio, Texas(Larson, 18). He attended Alamo Heights high school then later the University of Texas(Larson, 19). On the other hand, J. K. Rowling was born on July 31st, 1965(Rowling, 1). Rowling lived in Gloucestershire England as a young girl. At Exeter University she studied French(Rowling, 1).

Rowling both had many accomplishments in and outside their chosen fields. Riordan's first success in writing was an adult mystery series focusing on a San Antonio detective(Larson,18). Riordan also wrote an addition to the 39 clues series(Larson,18). One of his biggest successes though are his young adult books based around different myths including Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heroes of Olympus, the Kane Chronicles, Mangus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, and The Trials of Apollo(Smith,86). After college Rowling taught English in Portugal before moving back to England and later Scotland(Rowling,1). In 1997 Rowling published the first installment of her series Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone after it had been rejected by other publishers twelve times(Rowling,2). The Cuckoo's Calling came out April 2013 written by Rowling under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith, the book had good reviews but nothing too spectacular for a supposed first time author but after three months people became suspicious and eventually figured out Rowling's trick(Rowling Releases
