Oral arguments in court is one of the biggest and most well-known roles a lawyer plays. When most people think of a lawyer they think back to a movie or show were a lawyer is arguing a case. But most lawyers don’t spend even half their careers in a courtroom. Arguing your clients case is very stressful and takes a toll on you. You want to get the best deal possible for your client and sometimes it might not go your way at all. I also have to have good speaking skills, research skills, and writing skills. But outside the courtroom lawyers have to do extensive research and draft court papers to prepare. Things like that are more “behind the scenes” that you don’t often see or think about. They give legal advice to their clients so they know what the best steps to take are. In most states giving legal advice to clients without a law degree is illegal. Conveying, negotiating and drafting contracts, protecting intellectual property are all roles lawyers often do in any country. They carry out the intent of the deceased by drafting wills and trust. Not any all colleges can be named “law schools”, only the American bar association can choose what schools are most respectable and can be made law schools. The American bar association is the association that not only does that but makes the bar examination. The bar examination is a hard test all students must take and pass before legally being deemed a lawyer. But before one takes the bar exam they must complete seven years of college. 4 years to get a bachelor’s degree and 3 years to get a doctoral degree. Well known law schools, the most well known in the country are Yale, Stanford, and Harvard. Anyone who wants to be a great lawyer would most likely want to attend one of these well-known schools. But the schools are expensive, some can cost more than 43,000 a year. Some states don’t require law school. States like Washington, Vermont, Virginia, California, and Wyoming don’t require any schooling, they only require you to pass the bar exam. But sometimes the exam can be rather hard depending on the state. “In other states, like California-long reputed to have one of the most difficult examinations in the country because of its length as well as its low passing rate (55.3 percent for the July 2000 exam)-you won’t have the option to take more than one state per administration.”
