The Fisher King (1991) is a film that uses a subtle combination between comic moments and tragic drama, and it is successful in touching to the audience by tragedy and depression. The film starts with Jack Lucas, a New York deejay, shows the major symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder, comes into the mix because he talks to the killer before his rampage. There is a mass shooting at a restaurant. He feels meltdown, depression and unknown how to deal with it. Jack intends to commit a suicide under the bridge, but he encounters with thugs, who think he’s a homeless and want to beat him. At that point, Parry comes up and saves the situation. The “Red Night” often appears whenever Parry tries to show confidence. In reviewing the accuracy of Parry’s portrayal to his symptoms, Parry may seem not only just have psychological disorder happening in his life. There is the mixing between PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder including delusions, hallucinations, trouble with thinking and concentration, and lack of motivation. In fact, Parry has auditory hallucinations, visual hallucinations when he sees the Red Night. He has delusion of grandiose when he thinks he is a knight on a special quest that is God assigns him to find and carry out The Holy Grail. Parry portrays quite realistic of mental illness in the film. This is because Parry suffers from PTSD while he is having delusion and hallucinations at the same time. According to a nationally representative study of PTSD patients, it is approved that there is an association between PTSD and psychotic symptoms (Sareen et al., 2005).
