Biomass is a renewable energy source. The United States utilizes about 19% of biomass energy. This energy is extracted through crops, wood, solid waste, and landfill gas. Although we do have numerous contributions to biomass which are more beneficial than nonrenewable resources, which renewable resource causes the most harm to the planet and the bank? The contributions of materials are used to create biofuel, biodiesel, bioethanol and waste energy. The United States currently produces a total of 35,779k t in biofuels. Biofuel is a resource equivalent to oil; the only difference is the production. The U.S produces 5.5bn L of biodiesel, 35.78m mtoe of biofuel and 56.2bn L of ethanol a year. Energy crops are crops that are not food that produces …show more content…
The main advantage for using biomass as an energy source is because it is renewable. The current problem the world is facing is that we are running out of oil, natural gas, petroleum and fossil fuels. With time these resources will no longer be available to us. For decades, the world has become familiar with ways for the people of the world to receive continuous energy being gas or electricity. These ways are called renewable resources opens the door for mankind to live a successful lifestyle similar to present day with some transitioning. These sources are in abundance and are going to always be available. Another advantage is waste in landfills will be reduced greatly. Countries are dumping waste in different areas and over time there will not be a place to store all of our trash. Biomass would put the world’s waste to a great use. The main purpose of using biomass is its renewable factor. The primary use of biomass is to decrease the use of non-renewable resources and to promote wellness in the environment. One of the most energy uses we rely on are fossil fuels. Fossil fuels usage would be reduced immediately if we pushed the use of biomass. The use of coal and natural gas would also be used less. Another positive aspect of biomass is it does not produce additional carbon in the atmosphere. Using crops as a fuel recycles carbon into the atmosphere that was already present. While utilizing natural gas and coal, carbon in the air is multiplied. An amazing aspect of biomass is that it is a worldwide available resource. Biomass can create multiple biofuels as methane, ethanol and biodiesel. Previously discussed landfill energy reduces the amount of waste and can increase available
This high production of biomass energy and reusing waste has more potential than just West Texas. Texas contains several farms, waste-water plants, and agricultural land to utilize for biomass energy
Looking at the difference of ethanol fuel and gasoline, the benefits of ethanol fuel by far outweigh gasoline. With ethanol fuel being made from biomass the amount of greenhouse gas emissions is greatly reduced from those of gasoline emissions. This is allowed to happen because when ethanol fuel is burned, it is burned in almost complete combustion making the emissions much more clear and less harmful to the environment. With a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions the benefits to the environment are huge. Our economy would be allowed to spend less money on environmental factors and more for the people.
Unfortunately, fossil fuel is the primary cause of pollution. Pollution caused by fossil fuel, causes acid rain and global warming. Global warming affects humans and animals as well with the climate changes due to the burning of fossil fuels. In contrast to fossil fuels, solar energy is
Renewable energy does not pollute the environment and disperse through a very wide area. Biomass is another type of renewable energy that derived from plants or animals. The solar energy stored in the chemical compounds of biomass can make liquid fuels like ethanol for cars, gaseous fuels like methane, that can be burned in place of natural gas, and solid fuels like wood chips that can be burned instead of coal. You also have to collect it before you are able to use it and it is difficult to harness. Furthermore, an incentive structure needs to be established that makes the investment in such technology viable.
They are two crucial aspects to the topic of energy, but are not included by the UN. A determinant reason that millions of people across the globe have to resort to biomass to cook is that the cost associated with modern energy makes it less accessible (Birol, p.1). This unfortunate situation is due to many reasons. A key reason is that many of the resources required to install energy plants are disproportionally controlled by a few geopolitical actors. This causes large fluctuations on the commodity prices all over the globe, making not only modern energy, but also other basic human development targets, such as shelters and transportations less attainable (Regnier, p.2).
The Federal Governments Initiatives to Implement Renewable Energy Currently the federal government uses fossil fuels as their main source of energy, but the efforts to implement alternative sources are steadily rising. These types of energies are referred to as renewable meaning they are generated by fuel sources that restore themselves over a short period of time and do not diminish. Some examples of renewable energy include wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, and etc. The three major fossil fuels used in the United States are petroleum, natural gas, and coal and they accounted for most of the nation's energy production in 2014. An article from the U.S. Energy Information Administration provides that usage of energy as the following – natural gas 31%, petroleum 26%, coal 24%, renewable energy 11%, and nuclear electric power 9%.
In 2005, 140 countries signed a treaty to reduce their country’s greenhouse-gas emissions (Source A). There are numerous ways to go about this but the best option is to use more renewable resources. The main cause of global warming is CO2 gas being released into the atmosphere and almost 75% of that gas comes from breaking down fossil fuels (Source A). Using renewable resources in place of the fossil fuels would be cleaner and lead to less gas being released into the atmosphere. With technology growing like it is today, finding different ways to use cleaner resources should be easier than ever before.
Over eighty five percent of the United States’ energy is made from nonrenewable resources, which not only are being diminished,
This method is becoming more popular, because biomass is considered to be a renewable energy source. Biomass consists of corn cobs, straw, rice husks, short rotation herbaceous crops, woody crops, sawdust, coconut coir, alfalfa stems, various types
Fossil fuels had been the energy source of most countries in the world for several decades. However, the backlash of using them have only hit us recently. As fossil fuel reserves are running out and the effect of global warming has become more noticeable, and countries must find an alternate energy source for them to depend on. Global Perspective: United States: While the United States created a record 78 quadrillion Btu (quads) of energy in 2011, it expended more than 97 quads of energy in different forms.
It is easier to get out of the ground than coal, as it can flow along pipes. This also makes it cheaper to transport Natural gas It provides around 20% of the world 's consumption of energy o Advantages of Using Fossil Fuels
Also, restrictions from fossil fuels is another major issues for farmers. Fossil fuels help create fertilizers. Without fertilizers, crops would be vulnerable to pesticides and other things that would damage the plants. Today, people waste plenty of food; we over order or eat, and then throw away what we don 't want. Farmers have problems with this because they are producing more food than necessary, and it can get very expensive over time.
So, the risk of damage to the environment is reduced. Solar energy is a renewable source of energy as it can be used to produce electricity as long the sun exists. Sunlight is available everywhere on earth. This energy can be harnesses by installing solar panels than can reduce our dependence on other countries for consistent supply of coal to produce
Almost none of the fuel sources that we could use provide Co2 or other pollutants. Economic values could also come from renewable energy. Most of the Energy projects are located away from big cities. These benefits could bring local service as well as tourism. Although the pros are very big there are some cons.
Even if the producing country is using renewable energy, there are certain renewable energy that emits low amounts of greenhouse gases. Hence, this suggestion is a risk that the Morningsidea’s government will have to think about carefully before making a final
