During that time, nearly all of his peer associations were with delinquent youth or juveniles charged with delinquent offenses. Prior to his incarceration, Traquan had peers who had a negative, delinquent influence on him. Previous self-reports indicate one of his family members has been in a gang. Traquan and his mother deny that he is in a gang or that he has any gang involvement. Traquan indicated now he “stays to myself and doesn’t really hang out with anybody.” There are indications that Traquan’s emulation of his delinquent peers is limited, and he only sometimes follows their lead. Navarro grew up in a household where police were often called for domestic violence disputes. Navarro was believed to have a 4th-grade level in education even though he was 15 at the time. Danielle Jackson Carlton - 5 English 11 1 March 2018 The Broken System we call Foster Care Yes foster care is an essential system used to provide loving homes to children, but unfortunately these systems have become broken and can no longer keep kids safe under their care. Everyday children are being placed in foster homes facing abuse, unloving parents, and even death. The system has only progressively gotten worse leaving behind children traumatized to a point where no amount of love or therapy can fix them.
Moreover, they have to deal with acts of ethnic discrimination against people of color. Rios mentions that “many of the delinquent boys gave their peers “love” for making in school, getting good grades, and graduating”

The first step in creating family reunification is forming case plan goals, objections, and court orders. Step 2, Progression of visits. As time passes and the child remain in foster care, visits between the child and birth parents will steadily increase in frequency and moderation. It will be 5 years this June that I have been in the Foster Care System, I can still remember walking home from school smelling the fresh breeze of air, all the sweaty kids running to their cars waiting to head home from school, or to the ice cream trucks that all had the same foul smell of cheese and takis that followed every breeze that came near. There was a black car, the one time is what we referred them to, this was something that was not out of the ordinary to see around my home. But today was different, two men wearing business suits stepped out of it and went into my home. I stayed back just to get a glimpse of what was going on. I see my mom rush out of the house and into the car, little did I know this would be the last time I would see her as a
The biggest memory that I had was when I was sent to foster care. It started years ago when my dad decided to drink every single day and social services didn’t think that was something kids to be around so my sister and I had to stay with my grandma for a few months. We couldn’t stay with my mom because she didn’t have a house or a job and none of her boyfriends wanted kids in their house. My mom didn’t like us staying with our grandma because she’s not a nice person to be around.
The efficacy of appropriate treatment for addiction disorder and substance abuse may be determine by drug and alcohol counselors, primary healthcare providers, social workers, and others. Therefore, it is necessary for competent and those properly trained to utilize the necessary tools needed for proper assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning and future referrals. Careful selection on these instruments may be influenced by cultural, race, and gender (Van Wormer & Davis, 2018). Furthermore, counselors or other clinicians would also need to consider the reliability and validity these instruments prior to selection.
Literature Review Throughout the years, research has been conducted on the effects that foster care can have on children. In the United States alone, there are roughly 670,000 children who have spent time in the foster care system each year (“Foster Care,” 2017). Of those children, approximately 33% of them age out of foster care system. Studies then show that the foster care system has had varying effects on the children who are/have been a part of it. In many cases, studies have noted the effects of attachment for children in foster care.
His parents mildly attempted to find treatment, but they were not as serious about the topic as they should have been. This lack of seriousness is heavily related to the lack of awareness of the severity of these types of
Makyaa has peers who have a positive and pro-social influence, but she reported since moving to Newport News with her father, she has mostly “stayed to myself.” Makyaa currently has no delinquent peers. She reported she entertains herself by being on her smartphone and watching television. Her father also reported this to be the case.
